No
I took a knock to the chest last week which also gave my head a shake about. Not that there is much in there.
Now when I look down I get a splitting headache along the right side of my head.
It is OK when I look straight forward. My neck also "creaks" a bit when I turn my head.
Any magic cure out there!

yup
get yourself in front of the quack in short order
you don't want to mess around with a headache after that

There's a good chiropractor clinic in Forfar - Grekin IIRC.

I would strongly advise you to see the doctor first before you see any chiropractor or osteopath, or anybody else at all for that matter. Don't mess up with neck pains until its clearly established you don't have a trapped nerve or a whiplash problem.
Once that is clear then go for it, chinese massage, chiropractors, osteopaths, accupuncture, anything works fine.
I suspect that you have strained one of your muscles, the one that goes down from the neck down to your shoulder blade, its a very thin muscle but affects the head because its attached to the back of the head. They are two small muscles running down from the back of the head individually to the shoulder blades. Those are the muscles that helps us to keep the head straight or lift it up, or else our head would fall down, (chin down touching the chest) like a lifeless dummy if you can imagine what I am trying to imply.
When these muscles suffer any strain or injury, or sometimes even just continuous wrong use of this muscle like watching TV while in bed with lots of pillows which forces us to maintain the head in a position to watch tv, these muscles start getting strained and then subsequent result is headaches on parts of the head, sometimes just on one side.

So I would strongly advise first to have it looked by a doctor, just to eliminate any other problem, and then carry on with other treatment.

So it looks like it is one of those "keep it till it gets better ailments".
I have had lots of time spent with "bone setters" over the years.
Acupuncture does help a bit but it usually wears off after a few weeks.

I know what you mean about not 'doing doctors'. I'm terrible! But there are some times when we have to..
Now seems to be one of those times for you.

Kev.

There's two ways to deal with this, one let it develop, and two go to the doc's,

when your at the doc's be pro-active and insist on some kind of x-ray, scan.

you don't want compression injuries at C (neck) level have it checked out. it may well be whiplash from the chest knock, throwing your head in a involuntary and awkward way.

James

Over the years I have kind of have had lots of experiences with this kind of injuries, strains, muscle pulls, thankfully never a tear, yet and hopefully never, whiplash injury types, but not an actual whiplash as such, and including injuries caused by falls and knocks through punches, heck once I even thought my jaw was broken due to a high kick from a friend while sparring. Knocked me off my socks but thankfully ended up not being serious.
All in all actually nothing exactly too bad. I am a keen runner and train martial arts for a good few years so these injuries come as part of the package.
But by far the one I remember most and has had a lasting impact on me is one that sounds very similar to what you are describing. Now the good news is that if it really is what I had then its not something for you to worry about too much, but you have to have it checked first and rule out the big problems as one of the members mentioned around the neck bones. The doctor most certainly will send you for X rays to rule out whiplash. If your vision is not getting blurred at times chances are its not a whiplash, but please please have it checked.

We will talk further once you really have it cleared out. I will suggest you a few things to do which most probably will help. But I would like to know that you have had it checked first with a doctor and better still that X-rays have been done.

Even that click sound on the neck you mention sounds familiar.
So have it checked and drop us a line here. I will keep an eye on this thread.

Yip - maybe best to go to Casuality, Charlie. They can get an X-ray or scan doen straight away.
Sounds like you have damaged something.
Maybe they'll stick one of those collars on you to keep your head in postion until healing is complete.

You are likely to have injured one of these muscles.
They will give you a bad headache, sometimes on parts of the head rather all of it.

But I stress again, have the bigger problems rule out. It will give you enormous peace of mind once you know that its just muscle, which the way you are describing sounds like that's what you have pulled with the knock.
I can't stress enough that you need to have it checked please first.

Don't bother with the doctors, you'll either be fine or you know, end up paralysed/dead etc, what's the harm eh :)

I keep seeing updates to this thread

waiting for the one from Charlie to tell us all what he's got/had/prgnosis/who he's willed his kit to

He's probably dead.

His profile says "Last Activity: Today 04:59" So I'd guess the lazy b****r is still in bed :D

I am hoping he has gone to the doctor or the emergency at the hospital.
Its something so simple and can be checked without any pain or hassle.
Gosh, I wonder if it was a prostate examination what havoc it would create in some men.

Anyway prostate examination is something that men should do routinely every few years from a certain age. Seeing the average age of men around this forum most of them fall within that age bracket, so am wondering how many of you guys have been to the doc to have it checked in the past few years lol

He seems to have the same attitude to doctors as we have some people have to vets for our their sheep, which are worth a lot less than the vet's bill...
See how it is in the morning, if it's better it won't need the vet, and if it's dead it won't need the vet.

They're usually dead - go to casualty, take a thick book with you and bypass your own Dr

Ach I have been felling trees all morning. I think it might sort itself out. Not too bad till I either look down or turn my head quickly. That hurts!

I have actually found that on the rare occasion I have needed a doc, the NHS walk-in centres have been the best option...shorter waiting times than A&E and direct access to x-rays and stuff if needed.... mind you, that's only useful information if your local hospital actually has one. Being in London, that's easy, but I know where Charlie is and the chances are slimmer I would have thought, but if Dundee has one, he SHOULD be getting over there! :bat:

you still here!!!:bang:
I thought "da committee" wrote you a sick note and sent you to the doctor

which bit was hard to understand?!?!?! :rules:

Well, what do they say? That you can take the horse to the water but you can't force him to drink.:bang::bang::bang:

James, what exactly is that you deslike about seeing a doctor? Or a nurse for that matter?
Most probably if you go to the emergency you will be seen by a nurse.
Just think, nurse nurse.... urse... dressed in white uniform ;), sexy legs, attractive smile, soothing voice, very soft hands
Doesn't that make you feel like just jumping and going to see one?

;) You do notice I didnt mention if its a she or he (want to avoid being called a sexist here in the forum

Oh by the way, forget about it sorting it by itself with time mate. That clicking sound you mention whenever you turn your head? You better start living with that for good unless you go and see a doctor and then a physio to sort it out. The longer you take to check it the more you are going to have that permanently. I know it because I live with that cliick sound. I was two weeks late to have it checked. When finally the physio worked on it upon doctor's advice he said the muscles were already starting to get used to that position. That I should have gone to see the doctor earlier and be recommended to him to sort it out.

You really should get it checked out mate!

Although I'm a hypocrite really, I only go when forced, a couple of times I should've probably been to A&E... :D

On the other hand she might be like Nurse Ratchett:lol:

I don't particularly like going to the doctors' either but if it's a choice between my health and my dislike of the quacks, my health comes first. I'm getting so that I can even ring for the appointment myself rather than getting my wife to do it for me.

I would definitely get a head injury (even if it was a secondary) seen to by a professional - he/she will tell you if any "alternative" therapies may help - you might even get an NHS referral.

I have been in the A& E several times. Not an experience I want to repeat.
I tell you what I will do.
I will give it a day or two yet ( I need to get some timber out while the ground is still half dry) then if it is no better & I get a rainy day I will go.

Stop wimping Charlie, go and see a Doctor - you know health is not a commodity you can buy. Think about all them squirrels who depend on you :D

:suspect: I will make that 9 hour drive up there and drag you there myself if you don't.... I might even stop at about 6 hours and grab some persuasion on the way :p
