Yes
I went into Park cameras to have a look at the Epson R1400. I ended up coming home with a shiny new R2880.
But ohhhh it is verrrry nice. It is amazingly quiet, when they were printing me a demonstration pic I didn't realise that it was even on, you could barely hear it. The picture quality is amazing. It is huge compared to my 3 in 1 copier but I can't wait to get it set-up, I just need to make some room.
It was alot more then I should or can afford but I am looking at it as an investment, I can see it lasting me quite a few years.

I am doing a college course at the moment so it will be used quite abit now.
What happens if it's not used for a couple/few weeks then?

Say three hail mary's and apologize to your bank manager in the morning .. :D

Did they tell you how much it costs to replace the ink cartridges?

Congratulations

The inks are £9.99 each, there is about 8 of them (3 are all black!) So I am hoping they don't all run out at the same time!

Epsons can have a problem with the ink dying on the print heads if they are not used enough. I have had two go this way so far. hasn't stopped me buying more though, I currently have a R800 and a new R2400 that I have had for a couple of months and haven't opened yet.

Is the print head not be changed by the user... As I know on the canons we can buy new print head and replace them ourseleves

Well that Pooo aint it... Shame they did not design it like the canon

Though Canon was meant to be good?

I've heard really good things about the R2880!

Apparently, Epsons take the ink flow system (forget what it's called) but they're large ink tanks of each colour mounted externally, but the Canon units don't, so does weekly usage apply to any ink or just Epson stuff?

Cheers, just thought it'd benefit my knowledge, Nicola's and hopefully other peeps on here

I have a continuous ink system on my R800 hence why I haven't opened the R2400.

They do make them for certain Canon printers too.

I may have to consider a continous ink flow system depending on how long the inks in this thing last.
I find it odd that my smaller 3 in 1 that is about 3 years old and pretty pants and this new beast have the same sized ink cartridges? I would have expected a printer this size to have at least slightly larger cartridges?
Oh well thats how they make their money.

Much more economical if you do lots of printing! The initial outlay for each tank is gonna be a lot of money (about 3 times the amount per tank) but each tank is something like 5 times larger IIRC, maybe even larger.

You'd definately be saving loads though!

i have a continuous ink system for my epson r360 which is a fantastic printer i buy 6 bottles of ink from fleabay and they last me ages

I have an Epson R2400 had it for just a year now, its a great printer, I have had no problems with clogged print heads or pooling and I don't print every week, I always use epson original inks though and will be buying an inkflow system from Permajet soon. hope you enjoy your new R2880 :)

Don't worry too much about the head clogging. I have 2200 and a 2400. The 2200 is ideal for a month or more at a time and the minor clogs it gets are easily cleared. The R2400 sometimes is unused for a week and has never had a nozzle clog yet. Ink is quite expensive but I'd have to do a lot more printing before I'd take the risk of a continuous ink system, not to mention there is no room on the desk for one!

Make sure you use it at least once a week or there is a possibility it won't.

must have reduced the reliablity since the R2400 was released. had mine for 3 years still works and I've not used it every week.

i'd also suggest making sure it's calibrated to your monitor as well otherwise it's not going to live up to it's full potential

I hope that my R2400 lasts for 3 years, I have an R1800 upstairs that I cannot get the head completely clean and the nozzle check always has some spaces, I used almost £200 woth of ink trying. Fully working but am unable to get consistant results! The R800 is currently still working properly but apart from holidays I print aa A4 full colour/monochrome test print every week. Will do this as long as the thing seems to work properly.

I did look at calibrating the printer but that would be around another £300. I can't afford that at the moment. I calibrated my monitor and tested the printer today and it isn't actually that far off what I see on screen which is good for the time being.

warrenty (or extended one) is where I would have gone

Word has it that the X-Rite ColorMunki is the ideal monitor/printer profiler for the R2880 and delivers spot on results, but not cheap at circa £340.

As for the Permajet continuous inkflow system, did a quick Google search and seems you can only buy it for the R2880 direct from Permajet themselves, at approx £288

on the days you're not using the epson printer turn it off with the off button (rather than on the wall) and then on again, it'll realign the print heads and give it a mini clean which won't waste as much ink

I have an R2400 and I love it. Unfortunately I've had to take a 2nd job to keep up with the running costs - it's addictive this printing lark!
