I can't sleep :(

I'm the same.

Off work with a knackered arm and my body clock is to cock although to be fair I was always a night owl.

I've resorted to a few beers but now I've run out.

Ho hum.

Try a warm milk.

try a book..................didnt work for me but may for you

Sex. NASCAR or Indy Car (on ovals).

I think it's just my body clock. Went to bed at 3am, woke up just now.

Feel fine, but I have a lecture at 9am tomorrow, and I know that what's going to happen is I'm going to go in, come back and sleep.
I'll force myself to not sleep!

i see you're in Southampton (like me)... that's enough reason to stay awake all night :P

i find that getting up and going for a walk straight away in the morning, really helps me sleep at night

also sex and not drinking caffine after about 7pm :)

I put my MP3 player on and put the ear things in. Some nice relaxing music e.g. Brian Eno - An ending, or a podcast like Ricky Gervais..

Im out in minutes listening to that, its so much of a habit I cant sleep without it.

James

So tonight I've tried this:

Put music by 'City and Colour' and 'Right Away, Great Captain' on.

I fell asleep watching Bill and Ted earlier for 3 hours, so I'm not holding high hopes for a decent sleep.

to be honest, as students, we are not supposed to sleep properly, especially when we have a lecture the next day!

at least you are on a website that relates to your course!

And sod listening to (P)Ricky Gervais. would make me homicidal not sleepy

I love Ricky Gervais. Wouldn't want him messing with my dreams though!

Nope, I can't sleep.

Doesn't help that some prick just walked past and ghetto-kicked every door in the corridor.
What a ******.

I've been told that traumatic events can make sleep difficult...

Like, say, being the subject of a violent armed robbery

I wouldn't know....

11 years, 1 month, 19 days, 7 hours, 41 minutes.

Sleep when you're ready, fretting over it just pushes it further awaZZZzzzZZZZzzzzzzzzzz

Get up in the morning at 6am, go for an hour or two's run before lectures, come 9pm you will be out like a shot

Try lying right on the edge of the bed
You might drop off ;)

how much exercise do you do? Is by far and away the best cure in most cases.

someone suggested a walk in the morning, this works because it makes sure you body if fully away from when you are first awake, and then come night time your sleepy.
Most people these day seem to bumble through the day half asleep never really waking up.

-I recon some light exercise first thing, even as little as 5 -10 mins as long as your blood pressure is up and a little sweat.
-A good workout in the afternoon / evening, anything you enjoy doesnt matter what you do but an hours is probably a good amount.

Try being a PNE fan that'll do it:nuts:
You'll go out like a lamb:lol:

so ghetto kick his head ;)

some honey a double whiskey and hot water (soluble aspirin optional) is the best if you can't sleep due to coughing ;)

also, rather than turning off the laptop and immediately trying to sleep, you need to relax your brain first. turn off the laptop about 30 minutes before you want to head to bed and read a book.

also, turn of all the devices that have lit LED's to make your room nice and dark.

i had a fair bit of distraction last night. my flat is right up against the railway line and there was a bloody maintenance train doing something very noisy outside my window :(

Severe suckage :(

When my foot gets better I'm going to start wogging with my flat mate.

Easily walk for 40 minutes a day. Sometimes less, sometimes more.

I want to go out early though when everything has settled down. Today I didn't get to sleep until 5am, and slept through my alarm completely. For 3 hours. thankfully it was only digital media so I probably didn't miss much but it's a bit silly!

Git!

Haha I don't like confrontation.

I was tempted to have a few shots of whiskey. Always helped me sleep as a child.
Or so I'm told :suspect:

Good plan... It's always so noisy around here though!

Savage! :(

you in student accomodation i take it ? which university and which residence ?

No matter what I do!

Normally getting into bed and sticking on a film would put me right to sleep :(

Time for your old-fashioned home-made get-to-sleep remedies!

Try getting up at 7 or 8am, working all day without sleeping, and then go to bed at night when tired........its not rocket science, I mean putting on a film isn't going to work if you did f***all when you were awake, and then slept till 3 in the f*****g afternoon.......:p

When my foot gets better I'm going to start wogging with my flat mate.

Post pics of wogging ?? with your flatmate, but only if she's nice...:)

i spent 5 years working on dive vessels all over the planet, in all kinds of seas with all kinds noises going on , day shift , night shift you name it , and the only way i could ever gaurentee a good nights sleep was an hour in the gym doing cardio work. running, cycling, rowing. wind down for an hour or so watching a bit of telly with some hot chocolate then bang, next thing the alarm is going off.

if you think a railway maintenance train is noisy try sleeping next door to an azimuth thruster thats contantly trying to keep a 100m ship in one place, or next door to a BFO mooring winch thats pulling a 5000t lift barge along or right next to a tannoy speaker. Saying that though i still cannot sleep on an aeroplane

I'm a student at university.
There is NOTHING to do.
aha, i kid, but seriously, i slept through my alarm.
it was going off for 3 hours, and I didn't wake up until 10am. missing my lecture completely.

wogging is a mixture between walking and jogging. it's more jogging that walking, hence why it's not called 'power walking'.
sorry to disappoint, but the flat mate who i'll be wogging with is a 6ft5 male.

i'll post pics of my other exploits, however ;)

I might have to try some of this 'exercise' you speak of...

does it count if i run to the pub?

wogging doesnt sound particularly politically correct

had some inconsiderate **** last night playing music v loud at 3am :(

Racism exists because we're trying to stop racism.

Telling everyone we need to stop racism implies that some groups of people are different to others. It's a vicious circle.
Anywho, I don't believe it's not politically correct because I'm using it in the context of exercise :p

Pity you can't get into the House of Lords, it seems to work for all them

What a ******.

But to quote you from another thread... "Came in, me and Jon very drunk at around 3am, got into Andie's bed as a joke, and woke up April next door, who is ill.
She got very pi**y, and this morning I apologised for waking her up. She said she was extremely f'ed off. I laughed and let her get on with it. We have people down our corridor kicking doors and playing music until 5am. Laughing in the room next door to her was hardly a cardinal sin."

So, getting drunk (NOT a good way to get decent sleep BTW - try not drinking for a week or so until you get sleep paterns sorted) and disturbing an ill person is funny but "ghetto kicking" (whatever that may be) doors isn't? Presumably because that disturbed YOU rather than it being YOU doing the disturbing...

I find being quite cool before I go to bed helps. If I cant sleep I get up as it doesnt do any good lying there for hours trying to get to sleep. I usually get up, do some puzzles out of the paper, make myself a hot drink and then go back to bed. Most of the time I then go straight off to sleep.
