I have had a Canon 60D since June.

It started out taking images like this. Everything is nice and sharp even when you zoom in.

Now it's taking images like this. When viewed large, nothing is in focus.

I have tried fiddling with different settings, modes and lenses but nothing seems to work. It's really really frustrating.

Am I doing something wrong? could it be the body?

Is it still like this when focusing manually? Is it like this with all lenses?

That second image is suffering major flare, you are also shooting wide open at F4 and the point of focus is very near you - so really up against the conditions there.

I could not tell with the other shots you have on your recent flickr as the exif information is not in tact.

You have used two very different subjects as examples, and maybe different lenses too (Which lens was the first photo taken with?).

I would say, initially, there is nothing wrong with the camera equipment but (and I'm sorry if this may sound harsh) you need to understand better how to use the equipment to get the results you want.

Try this.

Switch off all noise reduction in the menus. I had a similar issue with my 5D MKIII. When I switched all NR, there was a noticeable increase in image sharpness.

Also it could be possible that your camera may need calibrating to your lenses, which can be done by altering the micro-adjstments in your menus - assuming your camera has that facility on it.

It happens when she focuses manually.... but... is she using the focus confirmation to check focus? If so, a faulty or badly calibrated AF system will still be bad when focusing manually using the viewfinder's focus confirmation.

@Georgina Kidd: Have you tried focusing using live view (zoomed in) ?

Do people not read the post above? LOL

From the looks of her images, there is nothing wrong with her body (lol). This taken with the 50mm f/1.8 is sharp when viewing the original full-size image. I think the lens she has used for the other images is to blame. Whether it be her aperture (f/4 at 10mm!) or lens IQ.

You may want to try a focusing chart on your troublesome lenses to see if there are any problems.

You can download a free self-standing chart:

Try to print this out on the thickest paper you have and give it a go wide-open with very good lighting.

Focus on where it says 'focus', check the image to see if the focus is shifted forwards or backwards. If it is, you may need micro adjustment

Which her camera doesn't offer :shake:

Are you shooting on a tripod or hand held and what lens are you using? You say it's doing this on manual focus is it focusing correctly on auto focus?
