I recently dropped my Canon efs 55-250 is lens and the threaded lens cap holder has broken, meaning I can't attach filters or the lenscap anymore. Does anybody know where I can buy spares for this lens or how easy it would be to repair myself?

Thanks, Neil.

there maybe an independent repair centre near you, but the closest authorised repair centre is Canon Elstree.

However, Amazon are currently doing a brand new lens for about £150, so you might find it's cheaper or nearly as cheap to buy another one. you could flog the dropped one on ebay for spares/repair and at least make a few quid back.

The best you can do really is ask Canon for a quote and go from there. At worst it's going to cost you £150, btw, are you able to claim on your home insurance?

Have you contacted canon about replacement parts? I`d be intrested to know if they sell them myself.
I just bought one of these myself new for £128 so cant imagine it being economical to send it off for repair. Good luck with it though.

Edit:
Just seen the post above me, if you do decide on a new one rather than amazon i got mine from digigood on ebay, got it within 3 days.

I'm making a claim through the house insurance but that has a £100 excess. I have also read somewhere online that Canon do not sell spares to the public.

Before you make a claim check how much your premium will go up by. I dropped a 100-400L last year repair was 260. Excess was £50 but the premium went up £240 so paying for repair was cheaper. Yes I could look for a cheaper quote but as it happened insurance rates keep going up so I am glad I am still claim free.
