Hi guys

Just bought myself a Christmas present. Having done a little homework I have just returned from a model shop clutching an E-flite Blade CX2, two bags of replacement blades and a set of training wheels!

I've only flown a little Picoo Z up until now and thought I'd like to up the stakes a little, hence buying the CX2.

If anyone has any hints, tips, instructions, set-up guides etc. for a total novice I'd be obliged if you could pass the details on to me.

It's a Christmas present to me so I have a few weeks of reading up until the big day.

Wish me luck!

Thanks for the encouragement and offers of help. For sure I'm gonna need it.

I can't have it until Xmas day so have a bunch of reading to do first...

:D

Hi Mart,

This model is very easy to fly but it is important that you do not take it outside unless there is no wind!

I recommend you buy the Phoenix radio control software. Basically you plug the remote control into your pc and you can fly exactly as you would the real thing. It stopped me having many crashes and saved a lot on repairs.

Even simple copters like this need a bit of skill. The software teaches you to get it right.

If you are only going to use it on Christmas day I also recommend you buy a few spare batteries and better charger. Nip to your local remote control shop and ask them what you need. All my kit is packed up in a box in the bedroom.

On first start up don't try to be clever and only go up and down. Then once you have mastered it start turning the copter through 360 degrees.

However, all that said it would be a good idea to unpack the remote and get the Phoenix software, you can then practice before Xmas and you will not regret it. Trust me I went down exactly the same route. I have replaced all the wheels, the blades (get some spares you will break them) about a dozen times, part of the internal mechanism that evades me and a few other bits.

Regards

Chris

I've had a similar chopper but with a different body on !

Great fun and easy to fly once mastered !

Its always a bit nerve wracking when you take it up for the first time ! The thing to remember is that when its low to the ground, ie a couple of inches, it will get caught up in its own swirly vortex thingy and be quite hard to control. Get it a foot or so up and it becomes much easier to control !

Adjustment of the little bar connected to the blade grip is crucial on these choppers if you want to maintain a good hover. Hold the copter so the top blades are at eye level and spin her up. The blades must track at the same position, if one is higher up than the other, that little bar needs adjusting, its a slight pain to do as it means pulling it off, winding it in/out and then putting it back on, but it must be right !

Enjoy it, its a great starter copter !!

Thanks again for the input and words of encouragement. Think, in readiness for the big day, I'll pop out and buy a second battery tomorrow.

Not long now til I get to fly...

:D

I found mine easier to fly without the training bars, they seem to upset the ballance.
Have fun

Sorry about the poor quality picture, it was taken with my phone

Hi Martin.

I had a CX2 and bought a little bling for it, Makes them look nicer.

Good luck with the maiden on Christmas day.:)

PS: When the bug hits you hard you will be purchasing bigger helis and throwing it about like this..

Linky..:)

I really, really, REALLY want an R/C heli. I've wanted one for years. Unfortunately the last thing I need is another expensive hobby. No one told me photography was going to cost me an arm, leg and lung before I got into it!

Hope you dont mind me posting a pic, not long sold this one ,regret it now as it was a nice machine.

can you get replica airwolf type helis? that would be sooo cool

omg that is ssssooooooooooooooooooo cool...

got a little (well i say little its about 25-30cms long) 2 channel heli for crimbo, already managed to crash it into the neighbours guttering after getting to about 10metres in height, smashed the canopy but its nothing selotape wont fix! had fun with it but ive already found the restrictions of 2 chanel control but i think ill have fun with it in the workshop at work!

Well, Santa bought her to me. Had my maiden flights (by flights read hops). It's not easy is it?

Here she is, fresh out of the box:

And here she is with her training wheels installed and post my first hops:

I have much to learn...

Anyway, I've had one or two minor crashes, dinged a blade or two (not had to change any yet) but bust the inner shaft main gear yesterday. Alas my local store were nil stock on the part so I ordered online.

Anyway, whilst in my local store, and not wanting to be grounded for too long, I bought a bind and fly Blade mCX - the CX2's little sister.

Here she is fresh out of the box:

That video is ace Martin..:D

Impressive you took a picture whilst it was flying , my dad bought himself one last Christmas and has gone through countless blades  he is getting better though.

The CAA have stopped sending letters through about his unauthorized flying into the kitchen airspace too :D

That is a beast of a machine!

Would that be where your forum name came from? I'm considering the Blade 400 for my next heli, although several have suggested the T-rex 500 due to it's "increased" stability over the smaller Blade 400.

Not sure the budget will run to an Align machine just yet though. I've seen the Blade 400 RTF, inc radio etc, bundled with Phoenix flight sim for £339.

Indeed it is where my forum name comes from, i do fly the T-rex500. I did a lot of ariel photography with this machine which was good fun. I also suggest the T-rex500 as a good heli, however if i was teaching you to fly i would most likely suggest you go for a nitro version first, say a second hand raptor 30.
Mainly because with electric your flying against the battery, ie its loosing power so the heli is flying softer towards the end of the flight. where as the nitro is the same all the way through. However the choice is yours.Another important fact is join a club, or get some one with experience to help you set it up and teach you. You will also need insurance from the BMFA to cover you third party, No person will be walking away from being hit from a Trex500.:shake: Also will cover you for propery damage. I can point you in the direction of a web site for the helicopters, pm me if you want to know the best one. If i was to recommend a radio system i would suggest the DX7. This will stop all the electrical interference you would get if you used a standard 35mhz radio. Hope this helps you some.

Insurance is a VERY good idea. The claim from even a baby 'plane/heli hitting someone in the face just doesn't bear thinking about - selling your house MAY just about pay for someone losing an eye.

I got a PicooZ microcopter for christmas and it got caught in the chimney draught. Spare top blades and tail blades on order! Room's too small really but it's all I've got unless I rent a squash court for an hour or so.

I'm researching one for my birthday. going to stick to the type you fly inside for the time being with the E-SKY Lama V4 beng the favorit at the mo

I have flown my CX2 outside for the last few days. It's been very still and is sooo much fun!

I'm loving my little mCX at the moment too. It's slowly teaching me orientation - see my latest vid: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=koe9SfHznKE

Happy New year to you all

Been watching this forum for the last six months and would like to put on what me and my boys had for Christmas

Has been great fun until the wind destroyed all three, good job that the shop in fleet sells spares.

looking forward to talking to you all

Sorry about the bad photos.
