Bagged my first monroe today :woot::woot:, for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, its walked/climbed up mountians in Scotland over 3000 feet.

I climbed Cairn Gorm, this morning and really enjoyed the climb. Great views from half way up. It clouded up while we where on top, its the only time the weathers been unkind to me in Scotland, so far, so did not get much of a view.

Those of you who did the Brecon meet at the beginning of the year will know what its like. It was as cold and windy and cannot see your hand in front of your face, but luckerly no rain

Oh, and on a photographic front, theres a photographic wildlife exhibition in the cafe building, at the ski centre, there only on word to describe the photos. WOW. If you're in the area well worth a look.

Congratulations - must be a great feeling (and a great achievement!).

Any Photos ?

Cheers minimeeze, it was a good feeling having climbed up.

Erding, sorry no pics worth mentioning as the visability was only about 20ft in places.

Well done!
I climbed (walked) the Cairn Corm last year, was my first Monroe as well. Got my eyes on Ben Lomond now.

Congrats - I've been doing them since I was 4 :)

The correct term is in fact "Munro", as they were named after Sir Hugh Munro, who compiled the first list of mountains over 3000' high. You are now officially a "Munroist", and when you have climbed all of them, you can call yourself a "compleater"...

Note the stylish camera bag attached to the hip-belt of my rucksack, and the jaunty, almost arrogant air of someone who dances up and down rocky aretes for the sheer fun of it ;) Cairngorm DOES exist in good weather, as this pic proves!

congrats i know how good i felt when i climbed up the big hills in dartmoor (well after i had recovered) enjoy the feeling.

Its a nice easy one to start with  Hopfully, I'll bag the big one next week. Ben Nevis. Just depends on the weather.

You started early. Thanks for the info and the picture of what the summit looks like.

Great sense of achievement. Great views. And a little fitter.

I only climbed The Ben 2 years ago - and I thought the weather was grotty. I just plodded up the tourist path through the murk. Guess what? The top 20m of Ben Nevis was sticking out the cloud, in the sunshine. Sea of cloud all round...don't worry about the weather at the bottom ;)

Well done Taxi, a great feat!! im sure you're very happy with yourself.. i would be!! lol.

I drove past there a few months ago but was'nt there long enough to go walkies.. although id loved to have..

Maybe we should try and organise something up there??? Maybe AFTER winter though...

Its only a matter of time now, you'll be up Sgurr Dearg (In Pinn) before you know it.

Just climbed the big one :), Ben Nevis, 5 1/2 hours from bottom to top and back down. Not bad going. Damn visibility was only 20 foot on top, not quite as clear as your visit. You where lucky to get such good visibility in bad conditions.

Well happy with myself for doing it :banana:. View from half way up where excellent, entered the cloud base with about 200m (vertically) to go. As I said visibility next to nothing and winds approaching 50 mile an hour. Did not stay long on top, just quick enough for the camera phone to do its business, and came straight back down. Looking at -5c to -10c in the wind.

Rough guide to distance covered was 16k and on the way up an average climb of 1 in 4, ouch.

Off to have a  or :beer: in celebration. Shortly afterwards falling asleep as nackered.

:woot:  Well done! :woot:

Thanks ladybird.
