It's sooooooooo nice woohoo!, sharp as a pin this one, now i feel i have my perfect lens line up! well i suppose a 600mm wouldn't go a miss ;) :D LOL

thanks Dan

AF-S? i nearly bought a non AF-S a few weeks ago, legendary sharpness!

yep an af-s, havent had chance to use it properly but went in the back yard before i went to work and shot it wide open to test, and its every bit as good as the other f/2.8 glass i have :D

You must live close to me then, I am near Lower Bloxwich, right next door to Fishley Park golf range

just waiting for my 2x now to see how that stacks up!

i still want a 1.7x if any one has one too, that would give me a 300mm, 420mm, 510mm and a 600mm, (for sunny days at least ;) )

Hednesford born and bred. Moved out a bit now.

heres a standard 300mm shot, look at that bokeh hmmmmm..... bokeh......

lost a bit of sharpness in the size reduction though, shame

Nice one Dave, I got mine on Wednesday!

One of my favourite lenses, and the weather is looking good this weekend for a proper tryout :)

i saw that thread, those photos are awesome! i have the kenko converter rather then the Nikon, don't know if the Nikon is better but this has blown me away, i had tried this converter on a 80-400mm and i was very disappointed so sold it, but now i realise you need a great prime then these things shine, i have got a 2x converter coming shortly, i know ill need great light to use it but, i have high hopes :D

I never spotted a difference between the Kenko and Nikon.

About 50% of my shots are with the Kenko and 50% with the Nikon, I used to alternate both TC's on a 70-200 VR / 300mm f/4 AF-S combo and never could tell which TC I'd used.

Hi Dave

Here is an example with a 2x TC (EXIF intact)

I'd personally avoid a 2x on any lens, apart from the 300mm f/2.8 VR.

yes it is suffering a little but it will still have a place in my kit bag, there will be times when that's acceptable for me as i don't do any bird photography where sharpness seems to be a absolute necessity, i don't suppose you have a 1.7x sample there do you? ive heard it aint too bad at all, and would like to add that to the bag.

Enjoy the lens but you'll never be complete! Some lens will tempt you in the future! Just don't go on any TP meets!!!

I've got surprisingly few from a 300mm f/4 + 1.7x combo actually...

I always handhold the 300mm f/4 AF-S as its so light, I can do 300 and 420mm no problem, can't do 500mm+ though even with good light..? so very few samples as that would mean a tripod and I don't use them!

I will see if I have anything respectable...

Does look like a nice bit of kit. Would love to get one and have a play with it but I haven't even put my 70-200 2.8 vr through its paces yet due to work commitments. Hoping to get out with it in the next couple of weeks.

Enjoy the lens and be sure to post up some shots:)

You have so much kit that I want lol.
D700, 85/1.4, 70-200, now this!
We must never meet, it'll cost me far too much

i am definitely stopping once i get the 1.7x converter!!!!!

I have got to offload the 80-400mm to pay for this!!!!!

I'm not bothering with a 2x this time, will stick with the 1.7x (and the 1.4x I've sitting in my drawer for the last 15 months!)

Damn, this looks so tempting. It's probably because I haven't had the chance to use my 70-200 in a while but for some reason I really want to swap it now (should get a bit of extra cash too ). Then again you don't have the versatility. I can see myself going in circles over this...
