Well, worst day today in a long time.

What started out promising became a nightmare. I was working wireless pitch side and a reckless footballer smashed the ball straight into my laptop, sending it flying into the wall. Screen cover came away, buckled it and it has simply stopped working - even back home nothing via the power pack.....

Only bought it 3 weeks ago - £900.00 down the swanny as I did not get around to insuring it. Credit card purchase....anything I can do?

Gutted and trying to keep my head together but man, I am feeling crap.

Pete.

sorry to hear that pete not much else i can say .:bang:

Damn, that's bad news. Might be worth checking the credit card to see if it's covered - what about home insurance as well?

The laptop itself might well be totalled (sounds it from the description), but whatever you have on the hard drive is probably still there.

Not a great deal of £££ consaltion, but it since you are in the business of selling your pics it might prove useful.

Generally replacing the screen etc is more expensive than replacing the laptop. It's a bu**er to be sure.

Comisserations

Often credit card purchases are covered for accidental damage - it will be worthwhile giving the CC company a call. Otherwise, if you have household insurance, it should be covered by that. Hope you get it sorted

Nothing at all, not a light, noise or anything.......:) Literally no power...

Could just be a connector popped with the impact , if you can't get it fixed by insurance just pop the bonnet and have a look.

Ps. Did his team win / lose ?

Thats really unlucky bud,

Have you tried removing and replacing the battery it might have become unseated... i dropped mine a while ago and that failed to powerup at all, pulling the battery fixed it, left it with a cracked bezel but it would still work.

Darryn.

Did it did it did it and it has started working. Mate I love you!!!! :D

OK, so brand new laptop with slight kink and crack in shell but working. Thank the heavens  :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

Not doing that again...I hope :bang:

For me it was the main battery, i suppose i was very lucky, like others are saying house insurance should cover this, as you dropped it down the stairs at home;) ;)

Great news, glad i could help. :D

That is so crazy, I left the game early due to deadline, my chin on the deck, my lap top bust, all of my images on the lappy and some stuff from the second half which was average. Get home, try and sort it, nothing, post here, and tada, its working.

TP - its magical :)

It's probably still worth checking your house insurance and "dropping it down the stairs".

Severe bangs like this tend to shorten the life of kit by loads. I dont want to dampen your joy, but it could die at any time - fin.

Figured that, noted. ;)

glad to hear all is not lost mate well done dreeder . hope your alittle happier now mate.

nice one, glad you got it sorted

Good to hear all is not lost completely. Just a thought - why do you need a £900 laptop with you? Are you doing major editing on site? If it is just for storage and wireless transfer why not get a cheap model that won't upset you so much if it gets trashed.....

Good point.
I use a 60GB pocket size Vosonic (no I'd not heard of em either) storage solution when out in the field (that means on hols for 1+ weeks).

IHMO: A desktop has far more grunt and posabilities than a laptop £:£

Yeah, was shooting wireless upon request, hence why this happened. Looked at cheaper alternatives and toooooo slllloooooowwwwww.....

Good point though.

Sheesh! I must say I've seen no end of togs get gear smashed at matches. It can get pretty hairy at times.

I'd certainly look at insurance if I were you mate. Especially considering you're now getting work.

Drinks on bar. Household insurance may/will cover away from home.Son lost our vid cam away from home, got newfor old no probs. The "dropped down stairs" is a bit over used. But omit telling them it was being used in a professional capacity.
Why on earth haven't you got your kit insured, as you appear to be using it in pro capacity. Sorry if a bit harsh for first post.

Ahem, I only said the lap top :D ;) Read my post!

Sorry. OK then why isn't your laptop insured with the rest of your kit?
Never put off till tomorrow etc.

phew, glad it worked out in the end Pete

Phewww....Alway like to read stories which have a happy ending.

Crikey you are on a roller coaster Pete. Glad things weren't too bad but with proper insurance you will have piece of mind.

First thing on your To-Do list Monday!!

Good to hear that the lappy came back to life mate :)

So the footballer that kicked the ball at you.....you not go and slap him ;) (only joking)

Good news in the end. Did you meet the deadline for posting the pics in the end or not?

Glad you're sorted Pete - that's the main thing. I'm assuming that you have your gear (shortly to include the lappy!) covered on a professional photographic insurance now? If not you simply MUST do that. You're now getting pics published for commercial gain which means in the event of a major claim on your home insurance they wouldn't pay out. That's the one problem with the internet - extremely easy for things to get checked up on!

I rather think that you need to simply accept that, as a pro - these things are going to happen. As a sports tog you do end up exposing your gear to the most ridiculous of situations - it's part of the job innit!

I did look for you in the highlights of the game..... but with the goals they only show the close proximatey to the goalposts and I couldnt see any togs at all.
But maybe you were crying in a heap in the corner with a twisted laptop at the time!! :(
