Yes
and France, I am driving via Portsmouth and Bilbao to Benidorm (yes I know) and then returning through France to the UK over a period of about 12 days starting early December.

Currently I have no particular route but would like to visit the Millaud viaduct.

Does anyone have any suggestions for must visits?

In the days before satellite navigation i used to drive to Italy using just a map and my wits, and i got to see many places of interest, but usually by chance because i'd got lost.

Nowadays i plan my itinerary and stick it in my Tom Tom, not as much fun but much less frustrating.

Monte Carlo/Monaco is a must visit in France

Monaco is not in france ! Its a separate country

It's more in France than it is in England or Italy etc for gods sake, you drive through France to get to it don't you? which is what the op said he was doing, DRIVING THROUGH FRANCE, it's getting to a point where i can't be arsed posting here any more because some smart arse picks up on any tiny error.

All I can advise is DO NOT go to Benidorm. It truly is a s*** hole and there are much nicer places on the Costa Blanca.

12 days ! Your going to be bored rigid keep going and head for Italy so much more to see and do.

I was thinking about Carcassonne as I understand that the best cassoulet is available there.
My intention is to graze my way home

Thanks to other commenters too - I like the idea of the Auvergne volcanoes as many years ago I studied geology.

Like the idea of Marseille (bouillabaise) but am thinking of avoiding Paris and Madrid.
If I have time I intend to visit the Le Creuset factory in northern France too which is near to Cambrai of WW1 fame

Paris is worth going to, but probably leave the car at the park and ride... Certainly visit Chamonix and Annecy if you are going to Marseille.

Keep in mind that the french have very particular way of parking and that usually involves some physical bumper contact. French cars have very rubbery bumpers so they are OK, but others may not be as lucky...

Precisely here: latitude and longitude is 43° 44 N and 07° 24 E. Stick that's into a GPS and that should take you to the centre of town ;)

After all the argument I will have to go to Monaco just to make it worthwhile.

I appreciate all the replies. Many thanks.

The French like to think that Castlenoudery is home to the best Cassoulet.

Carcassone is a great place to visit though, as is Marseille. I would miss out the Millau but then I do suffer from Vertigo.

Excellent advice - I am not related to the Black Prince

I am not good at heights either since a major climbing accident in the 80's but will stay in the car and away from any dangerous edges - middle lane hogger?
