If your were given the challenge to enter a photography competition with a potential of large win, but had to be handicapped in a certain way, which combination would you pick –

A. Choose your pick of gear, choose your own location/weather, but have a memory lapse of all the photography skills you have learned, other than basic.

B. Use basic bottom end dlsr gear, choose your own location/lighting, and use all your photography skills.

C. Choose your pick of gear, be sent to an uninteresting location, and use all your photography skills.

B for me:)

I'd have to go for option B. A camera doesn't take great photos, the photographer does (although a good spec camera does of course help!)
(I'm detecting a common theme here...)

To be honest it is the answer I would expect to come up most often, but it would be interesting to see if there are any other opinions.
The one surprising thing, is that I am sure many of us over the years spend lots of time researching all aspects of gear, but do we spend as much time researching for good photographic locations?

B but with a slight modification. You get the kit box - 1 basic body, 1 lens (let's stick with an 18-55 for basicness) and that's all you've got. No other lighting kit, just the on-board flash. Bogroll or fag paper diffusers can be used, as can plain paper reflectors (and maybe some tinfoil) but as far as photographic equipment goes, it's all in that box.

Ooooo tricky!

I would have to say C....

For the fact that to me it is a sign of an awesome tog that they can find the interesting to photograph in absolutely anything.... and I need lots of chances to try and achieve this.

C for me. I love the challenge of making new and uninteresting locations interesting, but I'd be relatively conservative in my gear.

Does "all photography skills" include compositional ones? If it does, I'll go with B. If it doesn't, I might be tempted to go with A and put a bit of faith in auto-settings on the camera (which let's face it are rather impressive...especially if I'm allowed to take the manual too).

how can you know me that well to have described my life so perfect, but I would rather be B or C, well B

Isn't B what most of us do anyway?

We have the skills, we choose what we want to photography but we can't afford top end gear?? :D

I'd be happy to go with C, love that kind of a challenge :), makes my head ache.

C...

That's the challenge - using your kit and knowledge to bring the best out of an uninteresting situation.

use bridge cameras
