Ok, I've set my self a challenge to keep up and take more photos this year pushing the boundaries.
Last year I gained more knowledge and this year I hope to gain more.... So here goes.... Off to think about the accommodation theme!

Ok here is my attempt! its not brilliant, but couldn't seem to get it to focus, and probably should have used the tripod as it a bit blurry.
Its not my original image as the first has vanisjed from flickr.

You image is not visible.

Strange, don't know what happened there then, pic has gone from flikr?
I deleted it from my computer so can't upload it again, so have replaced with one i took last year.

Week 2 New - having to get my son new clothes as he seems to have shot up, so headed to the sales. was having a play with depth of field.

Selina, I really like your 1st picture. It seems a bit soft, but I think that actually enhances the picture. As for your 2nd pic, you have nice DOF focussing predominantly on the knot of the tie, but if I am honest the picture doesn't really do anything for me. Maybe B&W might give it more punch and maybe a wider angle to include more of the tie?

I think if it were me I would if focused on the £9 and used a lower aperture to really blow the background out.

Apart from that nice take on the theme

Hiya Selena,

First of all where is your son going dressed so smart? I battle to get my, nearly 6 year old to wear a polo shirt, let alone a shirt with tie .

As for your photo .... hmmmm, I think you have put too much emphasis on the blurred price tag.

If I was setting this image up, I would have gone for more of a casual look to the smart tie appeal, i.e., I wouldn't have had such a neat knot and also perhaps flicked the tie over the right shoulder and the price tag scampered to the left, after all we don't need to know the price of the garment ..... does it matter to you son? I mean that crit in jest :)

Personally I would have thrown the garment on the bed, hanger and all, and seen how it fell, then taken a shot, and perhaps done this a few times if not happy with the first image. Why you ask? Because that would have given it a bit of a more realistic stage.

I like the way you have the hanger out of focus and the dof is good.

Look forward to seeing your future photos for this 52.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks, my son actually picked the shirt and tie! He wanted it for going out for his grandma's birthday, and also said he could use it to say good bye to people again (he wore a shirt and tie for his grandma's funeral last year) he is only 5!

The knot is as it was from the shop and I daren't undo it lol!

The first shot was quite lucky, just had trouble getting it in focus, and then the ladybird flew off.

Style - wasn't quite the shot i was trying, did take photos of different styles of pens, but took this as a quick shot this morning.

aww cutie
shame you chopped the top of her head off (i seem to do it all the time lol)

Hiya Selena,

Well done on the take for this weeks theme, I think you are spot on there and a lovely photo too. Well composed and lovely DOF too.

Look forward to seeing your week 5 photo.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thats a lovely shot for week 4, the lighting is spot on, as is the composition.

Really good photo Selena. Excellent use of shallow DOF. Nice composition and the angle of the cornet works well. Beautiful colours, and bright highlights add to the image.
I would have been tempted to use a slightly deeper DOF to get both hands and more of the cornet in focus.

Like your previous pics too. Cheers, Patrick

Week 5 - 'Hard as nails'

A hand made nail that still remains in the old timbers of many boats purposely beached at Purton near Sharpness, Gloucester, to prevent a breach of the canal. idiots though have vanalised alot of the remaining boats through arson, or trophy hunting, or stupidly taking timbers to fuel their BBQ's!

Hi, thanks for looking and commenting on my pics. I love your Hard pic. Great textures lighting and contrast. I'm gonna check out your other pics later. (using phone at mo and it's being a bit sluggish)

nice one :) good take on the theme like it in b/w

Nice take on the theme HARD. I like the conversion

MD:thumbs:

Hi ya

can't really add much to those above but really like the B&W conversioon ,adds to the HARD theme

Great shot:thumbs:

Hi Selena,
I have now had a chance to look at your pics. Although all good, my personal faves are weeks 1 and 5.
I think the week 1 one works well as the soft focus reinforces the Hide,n,seek title you gave it, and the Ladybird is quite clear.
Week 5 as I said before contains great contrasts and textures and the composition is spot on.
Great work and Good Luck with the rest of the 52

Martin:)

Hiya Selena,

Great shot, and fits the bill well for this week.

I visited Purton about two years ago and I was fascinated by this area and all the beached barges. What a pity it is being vandalised as you state, why can't people just leave things well alone, there are some :cuckoo: folk out there.

Anyway, I think you photo has done it justice.

Cheers

What a great shot for week 5. The processing is perfect in black and white, it gives the shot real atmosphere, i really like it, very effective

Nice raw image that work's well in b&w.

I wasn't sure about the black section at the bottom, the fact the nail is leaning or the wonky horizon, but overall I feel it works very well.

Cheers.

Thanks for all the comments, I could have got it straighter in shot but I as its on a rustic old decaying boat, i think it wouldn't have had the same appeal.
I love purton but that was my first time back there in about 15 yrs? i took my son to see it, but had to leave sooner as it started snowing heavy.
I took quite afew shots which i must upload to flickr.

Love it, like the conversion as well; my idea is something along the same lines but I'm not sure I'll get it as good as yours.

Hi Selena, really like the idea and composition on your "delicate" pic.
I know it's not easy with kids, but the slightly grubby sleeve doesn't add to the pic. But I like it all the same.

Cheers, Patrick
