Yes
i was thinking about one of those just for shots of the moon. F/32 would be fine for that, but while its cheap - i wouldn't be able to get much else than the moon so maybe I havent bothered take the risk especially when everyone slags them off.

i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole in truth, the quality will most likely be very bad. how many 300mm zooms are there for £150, yet they havea 650mm, good luck if you get it:)

and to top it all off, its white. selling to nikon and using the canon L as a comparison isnt the best marketing strategy

I expect it's whit because it's made from toilet rolls and painted with non toxic water soluble blue peter paints :D I looked at the detail it picked up on that motor though, it's got some CA's but it doesn't look as bad as I thought and also if you look at cheapo raynox lenses, they are amazing for the money!

I'm not saying it'll be good, I expect the same as you but I woulnd't like to count it out just because I'm not willing to take the risk.

For that price, it may be worth getting if just for the bragging-rights! I am sure it will give 1/2 good photos if one learns to use it well.

I may just buy one before I head back home, Saudi, where the sun is out & the sky is clear almost 24/7! f32 would not be a problem over there, unless a shallow DoF is what's wanted.

would work well as a paper weight, maybe a door prop, but not much else

Come on, the price may be indicative of something really silly, especially with that focal length range; but I beg to differ as long as one keeps expectations low

As I said, I may pick one up just for the sake of it and give it a try once I am about to go back home; I wouldn't expect something crisp and sharp out of it ... but to capture that really really really far away object I am sure it may come in handy!?

well buy an old high quality Russian mirror lens then, yours for ~£100 ish on fleebay 1000mmm f8 far more usable solid, smaller far better images - and not 500mm long:eek:

you can also get a 500mm/600mm f5.6 mirror lens if you look around, and if you are doing the moon mars etc you wont get out of focus donuts.

you can buy a lot of old well built manual focus lenses for that money, just search for m42 or pentax K mount - buy an adapter to fit the Nikon and off you go...:)

Hey, thank you for all that great information .. I am sure I will look into everything you've said when the time comes .... which isn't long away now!

It says i have to download the picture?

Now this is nasty .... does it come with a Nikon D200 mount?!?

They do offer Nikon F mount adaptors!

Just found this on ebay : 650-1300mm lens which can be used with 2x for 2600mm !!

http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/2/5/2/1/8/8/webimg/30165591_o.jpg

has anyone used one of these? It is horrendously slow f8-16 !! (this will be 32x with the 2x!) but I was thinking of buying one to have a play at doing some astronomical pictures and for some general larfiness (it is a word, I just made it up!)

Why not just buy a second hand skywatcher refractor for the same price? then you've got it for visual as well, don't get bogged down in focal length as you could use eyepiece projection or barlows ! which would give far superior results. These lenses are crap, but it's your choice, personally wouldn't touch it

I thought of this, but am not sure where to start with telescopes, and I don't want to start getting back into astronomy otherwise I can see myself drying up every pence of saving I've tried to keep!

Astronomy + Photography = Very Bad Hobby Combination

Or how about something like this?

On fleebay!

That reminds me of one of those cardboard type bottles they give you to p*** in when your in hospital and can't make it to the toilet
