Hydrogen cars - end of life in USA

in 20 years time you will simply be doing the same thing but all electric?
what is going to change?
More weather, less food, fewer insects, more immigrants.

In the same vein, I always behave - it's just a toss-up as to whether it's well or badly!

The UK car industry has warned its efforts to support the transition to electric vehicles cannot be sustained indefinitely as it faces the prospect of fines for missing climate-linked sales targets.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said that a government mandate, which requires its members to sell a minimum percentage of zero-emission vehicles each year, was proving to be problematic as the share of electric vehicle (EV) sales in the UK had stalled below 18%.

The rule for 2024 requires manufacturers to ensure that at least 22% of new cars sold are zero emission, rising to 80% by 2030 and 100% by 2035.

I cannot understand how a government can legally enforce targets for the sale of certain types of cars. The penalty is said to be £15,000 for every non electric vehicle if the targets are not met. The consumer decides whether to buy an electric vehicle or not based on their own criteria. Making manufacturers pay for the obvious drawbacks of EVs for many people will simply mean that the manufacturers will either have to reduce the supply of ICE vehicles below demand or go out of business creating massive and widespread job losses.

The French & German governments have taken a step back and are extending the deadlines for meeting targets. Hopefully the British govrrnment will see sense and do the same.

And BMW have just announced a new hydrogen car to join those already on sale in Europe.

ummmmm

  • When will I be able to buy a hydrogen car made by BMW?

The pilot fleet of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen is not intended for sale. Depending on the market requirements and general conditions, we envisage potentially offering our customers a production vehicle in the second half of this decade. The small series is an important step on the way to making this offer available to customers.

A major problem here in the UK at the moment is probably

A few more than that I think but not enough to justify a vehicle whether it's electric with a fuel cell or normal IC. The M25 station I believe generates it's own hydrogen but presumedly at some cost.

Just to mention, the Hydrogen generation centre in Aberdeen has an EV charger :)

Well away from the bombs, I hope!!!

Don't get too many windless nights though do we? and storage systems will take care of those. All a wind generator needs is enough to get it moving, even slowly they will generate power. Here in the North of Scotland the wind farms are often taken out of the grid because they produce too much power.
There is a potential problem in that many of the extended cold periods coincide with low winds so power generation by wind farms is greatly reduced. Although power can be stored in batteries, production of those can hardly be claimed to be environmentally friendly.
