Hybrid vs SSD

It is definitely the cheapest way but I already had a decent monitor. I snagged my mini for £350 which included an apple trackpad and apple keyboard. It had 8gb and the SSD/HDD too so I think I was pretty lucky. eBay seems to be around £350-400 just for the standard late 2012 model with 500gb HDD and 4gb ram.

Also check out the apple refurb store. I don't know too much about them but they seem to be ok-ish with regards to price compared with a new one from Currys etc.

I've seen loads on Gumtree for reasonable prices - I'm just afraid I'll end up buying an iMoc or something :)

I'll check out the refurb store too! Never thought I'd switch after being a lifelong Windows guy but the last two incarnations of Windows have been enough to drive anyone to Apple!

I don't use computers for anything else other than Lr and PS. A bit of internet stuff and I'm done so didn't really delve into Windows much but OSX seems pretty easy to work with up to yet. My PC was pretty slow but I think an SSD would have given it a new lease of life. My mini boots up in about 15 seconds.

Also good to remember SSD are much more reliable than the HDD with moving parts.
When I was chatting to the guy in the Apple store when he was fixing my mac recently, he said, with HDD's it's not a case of "if" they fail, but "when"!
I can back this up as every pc/laptop i've had has died due to the hard drive failing!! Five to date!!

upgrading to a SSD on my imac is next thing on the 'list'!

I did chuck out the dvd drive and added a 240gb ssd to compliment the 500gb hdd. Mines a late 2010 model and my first foray into Apple! It works so much faster than when I got it and than my windoze machine which I must admit is of similar vintage.

I know work on current files on the ssd and then move onto the hdd. I also have a nas on which I need to schedule a back up.... There's always something to do!

I think you will find that an SSD can fail dramatically they do have a read write life................regarding hard drives I have only had 4 maybe 5 HD failures in all the machines I have had and managed and that is a fair few some have had drives running for 10 years with no problems and many over 5 yrs.

All media fails Hard drives SSD, optical .............just have a recovery and backup strategy ready
