Hybrid SSD drives for Macbook Pro worth it?

Yosemite seems OK on older machines, and isn't so different from 10.5 on my late 2008 unibody Macbook. Mavericks OTOH was noticeably slower - I'm judging by doing a fresh install of 10.5 on SSD, then going to 10.9 before installing software.
 
10.6 was a pile of something steaming & brown. :(

I had major problems printing, with it refusing to recognise the Samsung colour laser printer I had for work. After 3 weeks I HAD to revert to 10.5, just to print.

Individual users experiences may vary but I found it to be far better than 10.5 and 10.7....
