Sorry that was my stomach rumbling..

So, we placed our first Hungry House order this evening at about 7pm. From a takeaway that is 7 mins away by Google Maps.

Like they do, they give you the delivery time estimate after you order and it came back at 9:30 latest. Okay, it is payday weekend and lots of firework parties so I guess we can manage with that.

So 9:30 rolls around, no sign of the food. Missus gets on the phone to HH.. Guy on the phone takes some details and says will contact the takeaway.

20 mins later calls back. Apparently the takeaway is struggling to deliver because of a road being closed so will be extra 30 mins. Which is interesting as there are at least 3 routes between us and them. Anyway we Google for roadworks and can't find a single road closure, only a lane closure on a local dual carriageway. The missus relays this with vigour.. How on earth can a takeaway less than 10 mins away take this long and why the hell have they not at least called us. Guy goes off to phone them again to check.

Second call back, they're supposedly not going to another 30 mins. At this point we ask for a refund only to be told that as the money goes straight to the takeaway and that they believe they have taken reasonable steps to deliver our food they won't give us one. Which is disgusting. However food is definitely on its way.

A development while typing... at 10:27 it finally arrived (I guess that makes it under the second 30 mins.. Lol). So I've just finished eating my Luke warm lamb balti.. Hopefully the other half will taste nicer hot tomorrow reheated.

Disgusting service and I can't believe HH don't have any sort of control over their takeaway restaurants like retaining money. Going back to Just Eat, at least on the single occasion we had a problem they had the capacity to refund.

So there you go, if you want to run the risk of your food not turning up (and/or hot) and not getting a refund use Hungry House.

We find it easier just to go and collect it ourselves.

I wouldn't trust this type of service. I'm sure i've seen something on TV showing that some 'restaurants' are household kitchens. Imagine getting a delivery from one of your neighbours

Seems an odd arrangement TBH, we just call the takeaway direct

Websites like just eat etc have opened up lots of new foods to us. Rather than having to drive out several miles to pick up a menu from every take away within delivering distance, I can sit in my comfy chair in front of the fire and browse them all. Tried some foods I probably wouldn't have been aware of even being near me. Thankfully we haven't had any issues so far that were less than favourable. Had a similar situation to the first post via Just Eat and, after a very quick phone call, had a confirmation of a refund. Took 3 days to reach my bank again though :)

Are you sure you mean Hungry Horse? That's a chain of pubs.
You don't mean Hungry House do you?

Hungry House, the online takeaway "broker" if you like.

I won't link them, don't want to do their seo any favours.

Edit- ha I see what you mean. I blame the lack of food. Will edit the op..

I use Just-Eat quite a lot (I need to stop eating so many takeaways) and I got into an argument with the driver over it. Why?

I put an order through for collection (may have been easier to just phone them up but couldn't see menu), and it clearly asks you "Collection" or "Delivery". I selected Collection, and got an email saying that I have ordered this and have to collect it from this address etc.

So I was there driving to the takeaway, and got a phone call, "I'm outside", and no one was in the house as everyone was away.

So I quickly drove back, and he had a right go at me, saying "that's not right man, that's not right" and no where on the receipt did it say collection (nor did it say delivery to be honest lol). I complained to Just Eat, and they told me that they have educated the takeaway on how to read their receipts lol, I was like "okay then, I'm not ordering from them anymore they probably hate me now lol"

I've never had a problem with the delivery time though, just I guess their systems could be more clearer for the takeaway.

I would definitely keep complaining about it - it's not right :). Gosh, I remember when I got my new phone, and had to phone up the takeaway asking where my food was. You know that these phones now have this thing where the screen goes black when it's near your ear? Well when I took it away to hang up, it was still black, all I could hear was the guy on the phone saying "Yes I'll call the driver now, yes I'm about to call him now" hahahaha.

There's a take away I never order from now, I *always* write in the note section because I have dietary needs and they *never* read them >_< Tried calling them one day, made sure to emphasis my special needs (lol) and they still got it wrong. But even still... why would you not read the note section? I imagine it comes up on the screen where they have to accept the order...

Also called another take away at one point and asked for ho fun, a dish they have an entire menu page devoted to, and received a reply of "wassat?" o_O

I tried to use one or the other app, decided on Papa Johns and ended up ordering direct from their website. Not tried the other local takeaways - they all have poor reviews on their relative apps.

Thanks for the heads up, don't think I'll bother them now I know how bad the service is, what a mess! ...I'll stick going for a virtual wander on google maps and phone the telephone number on the restaurants frontage instead. ;)

@Forbiddenbiker ,, my advice to you sir ,if you want a takeaway ,,,on yer bike son ( still got that Laverda? ) the one with worn out tyre sidewalls and then some

What's a takeaway?

tell you what Marc , if Adam was doing the deliveries they'd be there before they were ordered ( eeee dont ang around if he's on two wheels )
