Hudl 2 - Any good ?

Yeah totally agree but they said they will provide an update to fix it soon

Got a Hudl2 just before Christmas and am loving it. Really is as impressive as the reviews made out (always a bit dubious). Camera is a bit crap, but build seems nice and not had any slow down or charging problems yet.

Yeah good isn't it and the camera is something I won't ever use. I also have no problems charging

I have a iPad Air but I bought my wife a Hudl2 for Xmas.

We had £23.00 worth of Tesco vouchers which over Xmas were doubled up (not sure when the double-up offer finishes) so got £46.00 off, total cost £83.00 Bargain !

Wife loves the Hudl, she previously used a Acer laptop.

Battery life doesn't compare to the iPad but you have to keep the price in mind.

Out of interest what differences do you see between hudl and iPad. What does the extra £200 give you.... Genuine question not wanting to offend any iPad owners just curious

Compared to my old ipad2..

Battery life better on ipad
Touch response is better on iPad
Predictive text better on iPad

About the only things I've found worth moaning about.

Surprising... I thought there would be more. What about screen and camera (not that hudl camera matters to me)

I would explain it thus:
The iPad Air is a Mercedes the Hudl2 is a Ford. The iPad is far better built, has a huge choice of 'Apps' and is far more likely to impress your friends.
The Hudl is built for the mass market and has to be priced accordingly leading to inevitable compromises.
They both 'do the job' albeit with a different ethos.
The iPad you buy with your heart, the Hudl you buy with your head.
Importantly only the buyer can decide if the extra £200 + is justified.

I will add that ever since the iPad ios8 upgrade my iPad has an extremely annoying habit of randomly dropping my internet connection which I have failed to cure.

My Wife continues tapping away across the room on her Hudl wi-fi connection with no such problems smiling benignly as I gnash my teeth.

That's a good comparison thanks ....

Love the "The iPad you buy with your heart, the Hudl you buy with your head" - brilliant :)

and the

Anybody with a Hudl1 and a Hudl2? How do they compare speed-wise? I bought an original for use with my GoPro, but it's a bit slow - especially compared to my iPad. The Hudl2 would be even better because of the screen size, but I'm worried it will be too slow.

From what I've read its night and day.

What do you want to do with the gopro, I can give it a bash with my hero3 if you like?

I currently use my iPhone to setup the GoPro and to use it as a viewfinder. A tablet would be much better, but the iPad is too big. I've taken the plunge and ordered one anyhoo - less than half price with my Clubcard vouchers.

I see. As I understand it the app over WiFi is laggy anyway. I tried it on my iPhone 5s and there was a noticeable delay (several colleagues have said the same thing). I suspect it's just a limitation of the gopro.

I bought myself the official case today from Tesco and thought I would bite the bullet as they are £20

BUT - when I scanned the case it was £13.20 saving £6.80 - result

This is also the online price using the one third off code TD-HFTP.

Nice case to :)

Yeah the case is my biggest annoyance of the whole thing. The ridges aren't big enough to keep it upright at any shallow angles and as Neil says the flap bit really gets in the way when hand holding :(

the one with the built in flip around stand thing?

good stand, bit of a pain when wanting to hand hold as the flap doesnt fold away square.

Not had chance to use it yet properly but it seems OK from first impression

Yeah I got an update today one thing I like is being able to move apps to SD card.

Also been using my official hudl case for a while no and its great in my opinion

Battery charging is certainly quicker with new update.
I also like that there's a new cast screen function that works with Chromecast.

Well the update hasn't fixed my charging problem. It won't charge unless it's switched off by holding down the power button...Not happy at all!

I will be returning it, just have to find the right time to tell my 5 year old that it has to go back and he will have to start at the beginning again on his apps.

The games don't really bother me but it's things like his Mathematics or spelling ones that bother me and they don't save online. I wonder if apps like titanium or backup pro would also save the progress.

Can you use a micro SD card with it?

If yes check and see if the games etc. can be saved to it

My hudl 2 seems quite unresponsive when I swipe...I'm not expecting Apple like fluidity, but it seems a lot more sluggish than my phone when I try to change direction, or press an on screen button or app....is this normal, or have I got a duff one?

Nope.... My hudl and all the reviews I have read have very fluid responsive screens

How many apps do ou have running in the background? Closing stuff when you've finished with it can really help.
