Need to purchase a ethernet hub/switch to connect tv/blueray player/freesat box/xbox360 main router via a homeplug.

It's been suggested either a TP-Link 5-Port 10/100 Unmanaged Mini Desktop Switch or TP-Link 5-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Desktop Switch will do the job quite sufficiently.

I'm not sure which would be the better of the two, I suspect the Gigabit switch might be better for connection to tv for streaming movies etc that are stored on PC.

Main router is too far away you be hardwired to tv/xbox etc.

Should I go for the Gigabit hub/switch or the bog standard TP-Link 5-Port 10/100 ?

I always buy gigabit nowadays. Most modern stuff is gigabit (which is 10/100 compatible by the way) although TVs and STBs tend to still be 100M. Whilst your PC and TV may well be gigabit, the speed between them will be determined by the speed of the homeplug. My 500Mbps homeplugs give about 60Mbit/s actual across them, so that's what I get between my server and the TV upstairs.

PS. TP-Link are fine. My managed switch is a TP-Link device and works perfectly.

Thanks folks, I guess I'll go for the gigabit one. good point about the homeplugs by the way, their both 200mbps so whatever I got wouldn't exceed that anyway.
