HTC Desire - wifi hotspot

Hi guys,

Has anyone here used the Desire as a wifi hotspot for their laptop? I have 'unlimited' data usage with T-Mobile. Could I in theory use my phone as a free 3G dongle for wiring images to the desk?

Yes I have done the hotspot thing, only to connect to the net though, works about the same as a dongle. Only trouble is if you go overboard as they will cut you off as your not supposed to tether.. That and the unlimited data isnt usually unlimited, from memory I think that T-mobile is 1gb per month.

Thanks. It would only be used when my vodafone dongle is being crap (every football match it seems). Uploading about 10mb of pictures max so may be ok.

Check your Terms & Conditions carefully or it could end up quite expensive.

If you're unlimited tariff for data with your mobile phone, it will often not include use for tethering to a computer, for which you may be charged.

While I don't know about T-Mobile, certainly that is the case with Vodafone and I'm fairly sure with Orange and O2 too.

It is, but I see no way for the network to differentiate between tethered traffic and mobile traffic on a smartphone, unless your absolutely hammering the connection. I use mine in that fashion (Orange) every so often and havent had an issue yet. I may just be lucky though

it is not possible for them to determine that :)

many times i was connecting my mobile to my PC while I had no broadband and never was told off by tmobile :)
 
Cheers, I doubt T-Mobile would dare tell me off as they've ****ed me about and i've been a premium customer for about 5 years ;) It could just be a nice life saver rather than sitting there helpless at the footy
 
Just to say its pretty quick, faster than my Vodafone dongle. If they can't tell difference on traffic should be finefor wiring every so often as files are never huge.
