right here goes , i have had signal problems with iphone 4 some may remember unfortuantley they didnt go

02 have offered me a replacement - either i can go with iphone 4 again or seek another model

my question is this - what features would make you buy the htc other the iphone - im not here to have a arguemnent i need honest answers i have a hour to make a decision while i have the option i was thinking about going over to htc

I've got an HTC Desire and I love it, it does all I want/need it to. Macro shots on the camera are quite good (for a phone) regular shots are not that special.

It does have a small problem switching over from 2g to 3g, I think this is an Android problem rather than HTC though.

They both do the same thing really in a different box.

I have a HTC Desire and I hate it, previously had an Iphone 3G. It freezes, it sends messages to the wrong people (!!), the battery life is just as **** as my iphone was. It randomly cuts off conversations on a regular basis.

Wish I had just gone with the iphone 4 to be honest....or even kept my iphone 3G lol

wow i htought they were meant to be a good phone

Yep...right.

My mum's surprise 50th birthday. I'm in the taxi with my parents and gf, my sister is at the venue (that my mum doesnt know about).

I'm texting my sister to give her updates as we get closer, then as we're pulling up to the venue, I message her "WE'RE HERE!".

Who got the message??....my ******* mum did!!

GGrrrrrr phone!!!! :bang::bonk::gag::razz::suspect:

I I have HTC Desire HD and I love it.
Screen – enormous, perfect for multimedia, showing photos to people on the go… Not as good as Samsung AMOLED screens, but I still rate it very high.
Processor – 1GHz, what seems to be a standard nowadays. Android 2.2 works fast and the option of installing software on micro SD card helps a lot.
Battery life – up to 1 day if you use it during the day. By using it I mean: 10 minutes of calling, 30 mins of browsing websites on 3G, sync ON for all apps.
I have a charger at work and at home so I don’t really mind. Besides, I have picked the enormous screen for a reason, and it wasn’t energy saving 

First models had problems with proximity sensor, the dust was collecting on the sensor. HTC released an update and it all works OK now.
The quick fix before this update was to blow into the earpiece 
I’ve been using this phone for a month now and everything works as it should.

HTC Desire have a slightly bigger battery, same processor, less RAM and 5mpix camera instead of 8mpix (although I would prefer 5mpix)

One more thing: after struggling with decent upgrade deals from my providers (I had contracts with O2, Orange and T-Mobile) I have started to use www.buymobilephones.net
The deals are just great and sometimes you can go even lower if you will call them. I had 4 phones from them and 3 of my friend took their contracts from this website.
Have a look, maybe you will get a better deal.

sounds like user error, I type the name then can scroll through the numbers associated with it, have you linked the wrong contacts?

As a phone its good at what it does, I'm LOVING android (moved from windows mobile). The screen is pretty nice and it seems that gps rapes the battery, as do games, but music doesn't at all (no screen) and anything that uses the screen but not loads of graphics processing isn't too bad. The torch is handy too :D

Things is, all androids have rubbish battery life. Try using one as a sat nav in the car, using a cat charger. It uses power quicker than it can charge! iPhone 4 has brilliant battery life, definitely.

Mate are you taking the ****? lol.

As you well know if you use a similar phone, or even a HTC desire, messages form part of a conversation. I entered the message in a conversation with my sister, when I clicked send, it didnt appear in the conversation (I had not left the screen at all), it was only when I pressed the back button, and saw the message just below my mum's name, as the last message between us, that I realised what happened to the message.

Its not the first time either. A message I sent to a MUA ended up going to my girlfriend too :bonk:

The Desire HD is a better comparison to the iphone, but the normal desire is less so i think.

For what it's worth, i chose the desire hd over the iphone 4. Those i know who have the iphone (both 3g, 4) have been suitably impressed by it.

You want to make sure it's not your carrier that is giving you the bad signal because you might get rid of your iPhone 4 for a htc desire and have the same problem. For me iPhone is superior but I do like the look of the htc phones now android has stepped it up.

I use a htc desire, I didn't realise you were in the conversation window, for a new message I could see it happening easily as mine tells me I should link contacts that share first/last names so it would be relatively easy to type your sisters name and send it to your mothers number, god knows how it happens in conversation though :D

I have to be really careful with what I send just in case it goes totally to the wrong person lol

I have a htc desire and love it, has all the apps i need for free and to save battery life i only turn internet services on when needed and i have turned the display brightness down.

we have 3 standard desires and an htc wildfire - only issue has been with Mr Yv's - it would shut down for no apprent reason, then take several attempts and battery removals for it to reboot without freezing. On checking, it was getting very hot around the SIM/memory card carrier - so a call to vodafone and a replacement was sent next day - since then, all ok. we love them otherwise, impressive array of features, no issues with text messages going to wrong people or anything equally daft like that and best of all, not silly bitten fruit logos [ :p jk]. Battery life is generally very good with the only exception being when using the kindle app, which does seem to be battery heavy, but unless you plan a marathon reading session, its not really an issue. I am told the GPS uses a lot of battery power, but as we have a tomtom, never really needed to find out ;)

I think the std desire is fair comparison with the iphone 3 whilst the HD desire is more comparable with iphone4 from what I have heard generally.

However, until last year we were with o2 and had no end of problems over the years and various brands of phone getting no signal, especially at home so do make sure it is phone and not network issues before jumping. ;)

Really, have you tried them all?
I must say that's a bold statement to make and you must be very rich to have tried them all :p
My Samsung Galalxy S has battery life similiar to those I know using an iphones.

Try using one as a sat nav in the car, using a cat charger. It uses power quicker than it can charge! iPhone 4 has brilliant battery life, definitely.

I've used various sat nav apps whilst plugged into the charger in the car and it's never drained the power quicker than it can be charged.

You are the first person I've heard say this who uses a HTC Desire.
There are other other SMS apps on the market, have you tried those?
I hate the silly conversation thing and I don't use it on my SGS.

check for updates from the phone.

this all txt problem was supposed to be fixed with an update.

and it does not happen to many mobiles and thats why others may say it is users error...
if there are no updates, root it and change ROM ;)

If you are going to make purchases based on comments like this from just one person, you will never buy anything. If you Google for long enough, you will find negative comments about pretty much every product out there. Clearly, both phones are good or they would not sell in such volume and at such prices. You just need to decide which will work best for you based on more than the opinion (no matter how strident) of one person.

Galaxy S (my Grans) terrible battery life - about 6 hours on standby with making about 10 minutes of calls - and yes replaced the model a few times, and all wifi, bluettoth etc turned off. Eventually bought a bulky battery pack for it, and now can do a full day. Sony xperia x10 - dreadful, again 7 hours standby ish. HTC wildfire(brothers, terrible) Legend(brothers) a bit better, Desire (uncles, still just about lasts 8 hours with Internet off etc). And none of tem charged properly on car chargers. The then iPhone 3G and 3GS we had lasted much much longer, and imvho the 4 is excellent battery too.

re battery on my Desire (non HD), i have wifi and bt enabled permanently as well as email syncing every 10 mins, a lot of data usage and its been fine for me.

as for the battery draining even on charge, blatently a duff charger.

I went from a 3GS to a HTC desire and after 6 months went back to a 3GS. I was running 2.2 on the HTC, but still felt it was buggy and lagged a bit. Battery was about the same as the iphone. I Kept running out of memory on the phone when installing apps.. something I have never done on a iphone. I gave the HTC to my brother to try before I sold it, he lasted 2 days and gave it back, said it was rubbish compared to his 3GS..

Apple might keep their products closed, but they are simple to use.. which for 9 out of 10 of us is what we want..

Must say, i can happily use my sat nav, while leaving all other connections open (wifi, mobile internet etc) and simultaneously steam music to my car stereo via bluetooth and have no issue fully charging the battery with a generic cheap usb charger.

For me I didn't want a phone to own me, I wanted a phone that I owned. I wanted something that I can change constantly and can have completely personalised to where I am. For example, I have set ups with various apps and widgets for if I am at home or for if I am out and the footy is on, or if I am in the pub and want instant social updates without having to lift a finger. It's hard to explain unless you are on android.

I love widgets and android have really got my attention with widgets.

Today I have done the following ALL AT THE SAME TIME:

I was listening to music via a widget on one of my 7 home screens.
At the same time I was downloaded a 2 hour live mix of my favourite DJ.
I also downloaded a pdf document.
Plus I was on facebook app whilst switching to the proper internet to watch my friends embedded youtube clips, on the facebook page itself (no need for a separate app).
On the internet I was seeing these adverts with moving pictures all over the show and when I went on youtube I could see the video's without having to open a new app.

Later on I was on facebook (a combination of the app and the FULL internet page) plus switching to my favourite website of the evening. FOOTY! I was watching my team on a web page where the match was embedded in, you guessed it, flash. Thanks to my Desire I never, ever miss a football match as long as there is an internet connection.

The odd thing is, when my mates see my android device they always want to compare their iphone to it. So I would end up doing tests and my favourite: wifi races. Then the iphone4 came out and I would happily do the same again. I got beat once...cos my phone could not do facetime.

Oh and I am on the original HTC Desire and I can do all of the above.

CONS: Poor battery, although you get used to charging it more. Internal storage is poor if you really want to install too many apps you can remember the name of. EDIT - the camera is pants. Proper pants.

I used to have an Xperia X10 running droid 2.1 and when i did a comparison with a iphone4 my phone beat it when going on the web, so i don't know where the laggy comment came from, maybe it was the handset.

I wanted an Iphone after having an ipod touch, i though i could just have all my music on there and make calls, simple.

But after playing with my friends ones for quite some time i started to hate them, to me they were just a toy for playing games of listening to music.

I didn't want a phone for that, i never used apps, unless they where productive apps and i stopped listening to music and sold my ipod touch.

I started to look at other handsets after selling my X10, (which was a fantastic phone that i cannot fault) and i looked at HTC. I was convinced that was the way forward until i realised i was just going to be buying another gimmicky phone with apps and a touch screen.

In the end i went Blackberry for a number of reasons;

Buttons, no more miss typed messages
constant online with a battery that is better than any other phone on the market, (17days standby)
Convience of being able to take a number in a message, copy it and paste it to something else.
BB Messenger, free message service to anyone on BB

The list goes on, quality build, perfect and loud sound, constant signal, (Orange, T-Mob, combined)

If its simplicity you want then any of the iPhones will do,sd,for me I found the iPhone boring and limited in standard form . Where I am ,the iPhone wouldn't download apps its just hung and drained the battery ,as for the desire ....it'll just do dandy .I surf on net on all my breaks at work so that's about an hr and I text and the odd call ,battery never let me down . Admittedly if I have to use gps it just kills the battery .

I have the HTC desire moving over from the iPhone 3g and I HATE IT!
Battery awfull, I miss all my apps, Pain in the arse to even find a contact to call, the Zune software for music/videos is appauling............

DONT DO IT! Stick to the apple and stop yourself from taking your face into a dark room and giving it a dam good slap!

There is a music player app for android that looks just like the iPhone music player, it's called bPlayer, might be worth a search for to make the Desire a little more bearable.

Have been using a Desire for 8 months no problems or bugs. With little use the battery will last 2 days with heavy web browsing or lots of email it needs a charge every night. I really like the ability to use it as a wifi hotspot meaning I no longer need to carry a 3G dongle for my laptop.

I have the HTC Desire and it's the best phone I've had. Love the ability to personalise it, the look and feel, the range of apps, the screen etc etc. I don't find battery life a problem and often finish the day with at least a half charge left, but tend to routinely recharge it overnight anyway.

My family liked mine so much that all four of us now own them!

I had iPhones since launch and when I was due a change from my 3GS I went desire hd and do not regret it one bit, battery is miles better than iPhone, I can get two days out of it if I use it as a phone. iPhone is far to restrictive without jail breaking it and voiding warranty, htc works out the box and IMO does so many things better than iphone

Plus sides, so much cheaper, more free apps (even ones you have to pay for on apple are free) only thing I miss about the iPhone is the eurosport player, but in can get that on my iPad so no biggy.
