So is anyone else waiting for the promised firmware update for the HTC Desire HD amongst other phones?

People across the globe have been reporting getting Firmware over the air updates for the past few days.

Im with Tmobile Uk and haven't got the notification yet.

anyone here got it?

They say its much faster and styled better? lol

Not yet. I have an unbranded Desire HD on Orange.

Will the update from Orange come bundled with all the unwanted branded software?

Dare I try and press update? Been hoping for 2.3 for a while now, although I must say I'm pretty happy with Froyo.

EDIT: just tried updates, nothing. unbranded on Orange as well.

I have HTC Desire, what will the update do for the phone?

the reports about the update are good so far :)

Anything in particular aside from general speed improvements? I tried to look on xda forums but got bored after about page 2 of the ~26 page thread....

Speed and aesthetics.... and hopefully they have fixed the text message problem :)

What text message problem?

Alot of Desire HD users reported loosing notification of when a text arrived, and it just appearing in the inbox when you go into messages.

Has been fixed using a third party bit of software, but bloody annoying :)

Still no update for me :(

I've had a few similar issues with my Desire HD thinking about it.

No worse than the deleting of all text messages for no apparent reason on the desire

I used to get this a lot on my Desire HD. The worst point, several times a week. I run SMS Backup & Restore every night and for some reason it seems to have gotten far better - around the same time that I moved back to Sense from LauncherPro as my launcher, so that probably helped as well. Fingers crossed, haven't had to restore my text messages in a while now.

Just checked, still no updates.

Just installed Gingerbread. An icon change here and there (the All Apps one in the bottom left of Sense), the All Apps section itself has been tweaked a bit, font on keyboard prediction words is bigger as is the font on messaging in general (just a tad).

Unbranded on Orange

Actually... I can download it now. T-mobile here. Just went into settings and I let me download :) just wait till I get home :)

They have put commonly used settings like Wi-fi in the drop down bar - a welcome addition, I used to have a plugin for it on one of my homepages so it's nice to have a more seamless way.

nothing available yet on my orange phone!

Not to treat you like an idiot, but are you waiting for the notification or have you manually tried to check for updates? (I only got update notification through the latter)

If you mean did I go into settings and force it to check for an update, yes I did. If not, yes I'm an idiot :)

Yeah, that's what I meant. Just didn't want to assume. That's odd that you haven't received it yet then, since I'm also on Orange.

I read that it can take a while to filter through to everyone handset, serial numbers have something to do with it

on vodafone and mines just finished updating itself, lets see what new it can do!

I've got Gingerbread on my Galaxy S and tbh I'm underwhelmed with any significant differences from 2.2.1 apart from new icons... the biggest difference is the dispute between Google and Facebook means that FB contacts no longer appear in your address book (and you don't get their status appear when they phone )

ive had calls tonight and they have all come up with status updates and photos ?

Menus seem much faster to navigate. Not a huge fan of some of the changes, the menu/app list area was cleaner without that little bar at the bottom, and the scroll bar at the side, wish I could disable those.

hmm i read it had been killed for 2.3.3...and having to manually link contacts was deeply tedious...tbh I found the FB app to be so horrible and buggy that I'm resisting reinstalling it for the moment anyway! (took the opportunity of new firmware to completely wipe & reset the phone and only reinstall things as I need them...)

Downloaded this Tuesday afternoon - T-Mobile locked. Any views so far from those that have it?

I can see the usefulness of the bar at the bottom of the Apps screen which shows All, Recently Used or Downloaded but I think it spoils the look of that particular screen. Also when all apps are displayed they've fiddled with the scrolling. It's no longer a smooth scroll which carries on a bit after you've wiped your finger - it's now a page at a time display. I don't know if that can be reversed.

The Quick Launch thingy in the notification bar is useful.

My weather pages now make a sound if its raining or thundering.

Haven't found anything else so far.

I dislike the new All Apps page as well - I much preferred being able to slow or speed up scrolling as I went down the page, rather than it assigning pages for me.
