HP laptop with no power??

Is it worth the effort is what I'd like to know? My HP stopped taking power when plugged in, at first intermittently but now it's stopped completely. I've tried three different power leads and it makes no difference. At first if I wiggled the lead about where it connects to the LP it would work but not anymore.
I'm assuming there is a faulty connection inside or some component has gone TU but I can't open it up to see. If I could open it I could possibly effect a repair myself as I do this sort of thing (appliance Engineer) every day.

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

You had to wiggle the wire where it goes into the laptop or the brick PSU? If it's the laptop, it'll be a broken joint on the PCB that can be fixed with solder. If it's at the brick PSU, it's a new PSU time. They are fairly cheap on ebay for those sorts of things.

It's where the power lead enters the laptop hence my suspicion about it being an internal fault. With that info and Pauls post below I'll give it a whirl and see where it ends up. Already got a replacement laptop so nothing to lose.

You will have to strip the laptop and check the power connector on the mainbord. Either it will have come unsoldered. In case one just resolder it, in case 2 you can probably get a connector off eBay to replace it with. Either way with basic engineering skills you should be able to do it if you take your time.

I don't know how much difference this makes but have just realised it's not a HP it's a Packard Bell. :bonk::nuts: The model number is EN TM80 and I haven't been able to find a manual for it yet. I have removed every screw I can find but still unable to get it apart.

I'll check back here to see if any further ideas for opening it short of using a lump hammer, which is getting tempting.

The 'normal' steps in stripping laptops is:

battery
hdd/cdrom if removeable
keyboard
any memory below keyboard or on underneath of laptop
either screen or palm rest (sometimes need to remove palm rest first)

The motherboard should be accessible then, you may also need to remove the serial/vga port screws too.

The tricky bit is usually the palm rest, they often have clips underneath that 'snap' into place, you will be able to get it apart without breaking them you just have to open a corner the right way and move along the rest.

My Dell XPS laptop did this, guessed it was a quick solder, but as it was still warrantied the man from Dell came round..........

and replaced the motherboard instead!!

I asked WTF is going on - he said it was easier for him to replace the mobo!

I wasn't going to argue esp as the graphics on the new mobo were better than my old one.
