I'm guessing some/many might have heard of the keylogger 'problem' with HP -

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-42309371

My daughter has a HP laptop and followed links to download the fix, and then ran it.

The result is the laptop now no longer responds to any keyboard entry (whether the laptop keyboard or and external one).

This is, as you can imagine, not good news. Almost every solution for laptop/PC problems relies on being able to get into the machine and do something, but with no possible keyboard entry then even the password can't be typed in.

Has anyone had or heard of this problem?

Google is no use as any search term that includes 'HP', laptop', 'keylogger' or 'fix' results in pages relating to the problem of the keylogger itself.

Also if anyone has an HP laptop please be careful about downloading a fix.

Grateful for any advice.

Dave

BTW My daughter is computer savvy and it is very unlikely that she has done anything that has caused this problem

I can't help with the problem but I do have an HP laptop. I haven't atempted to install the fix since as I read it the keylogger is disabled by default and someone has to have access to the laptop to enable it. Since no-one else has access to my laptop I'm not too worried. Mine has a tablet mode and onscreen keyboard, though whether you can input the password with it I'm not sure as I don't use it as a tablet.

Thanks for the reply, Jan. We went back to a restore point from a couple of days ago and got it working again. We are a bit concerned about what might happen when the laptop is turned off later tonight but, as the saying goes, tomorrow is another day.

While we can't be absolutely sure the fix caused the problem we are struggling to think of anything else.
