How would you react to this?

I would hope I would have the presence of mind to clutch at my chest and collapse. That's not entertainment, that's cruel and unusual torture!

i worry that I'd react by punching the ghost full in the face. Which is scary because it would mean seriously injuring a child

I would totally brick it. It'd be great to do something like this to some Urban Explorers in some old abandoned mental institute.

Got to admit, I did think at least one person would lash out at the kid

The thing that makes me think this is a set up - is the fact that the lift isn't moving. You can tell when a lift is going up/down - and clearly this one isn't as the "ghost" can get in from behind a panel... So that would be the 1st thing I'd be concerned with..... Why are we not moving when the level indicator says we are....

I think that probably is going through all their minds as they start looking confused, then the lights dim and at that point I imagine they all are thinking they haven't moved. But it all happens so quick, once the girl is there you just jump as it was unexpected

Not the case. There was an attraction in the basement of the Trocadero Centre in London yeeears ago called Alien War (Used the set and creatures from "Aliens"), and part of the experience was done in a lift which fully felt like it was moving, but in fact went nowhere. I have no idea how it was done, but you'd have sworn it was moving. :)

Pure Genius!!!!

Unfortunately my nature would mean I would have prob punched the ghost or at least tried to. In this case a child. It's not funny not clever and not entertainment. Sorry but for me this is a huge thumbs down.

You didn't see Space Cadets on CH4 a few years ago?

I get that part... the fact that you don't expect people to come into a lift while the doors are shut. I wonder what the reaction would have been had she not been dressed the way she was - almost like an assumption that she was a ghost...

Seems like a LOT of effort for what appears to be a canned laughter TV show, but I guess it could be something like that. I do wonder how they did it though - I would think it's an extremely difficult thing to fake.

Nope.

Spencer I don't know how they do it. All I can say is when we did Alien War, there were kids in the queue waiting to go in so we thought ok, can't be so bad, right? Wrong. Kids were the only ones who seemed to keep a sense of perspective. All of us so-called adults were scared CRAPLESS!!! I told the guy I was with at the time NOT to leave me under any circumstances, but when faced with an actual (it seemed) 7 foot tall alien drooling acid and hissing like a wheezy ashtmatic, I was OUT OF THERE. Lynford Christie had nothing on me lol. And when one person was snatched from the lift I just about pooped.

Damn it's a shame that place folded. The basement was flooded in the 90's and they just closed the whole "exprience". I hear rumours that since promethius they are thinking of relaunching it. If they do...I'll go

Since i don't believe in the paranormal I suspect i'd either just say WTF ? is going on , or i'd sus it was a joke and ignore it - also as soon as the lights went out i'D have my phone out so i'd see the hatch opening anyway ?

Also ref the alien experience, ive never understood the point of going to these places (ditto london dungeons etc) to be 'scared' or why anyone would actually be scared other than maybe a swift jolt of adrenalin from something appearing suddenly - after all you know its not real

Looks set up to me ... when the kid chases the guy at the end, it's towards what looks like an open, very wide shuttered entrance, like a garage, or TV studio and not what you'd expect from the average reception area.
Brazilian though, so who knows.

Many moons ago I worked in a theatre, and on a couple of occasions I had lock up, or go back in by myself. Once you've switched off all the lights in a theatre and are walking around with a torch, with the million of ghost stories that abound, although I don't believe in ghosts, you do get a chill up your back. If something like that had happened then I would definitely have been scared out of my wits, and I think I possibly would have in the lift.

My first reaction was "i'd punch it in the face to see if it's real", then I thought that would just mean punching a young girl in the face  it's for the best it didn't happen to me I think!

Blimey, your life must be so full of fun and laughter :shake:

I love how hard some of you lot are sitting here watching. This is brilliant psychology working on many levels and I assure you that nobody would punch the "ghost" in that situation.

And I can assure you I would.

Haha, This is what I was thinking. Imagine all those social norms mounting up inside a panicking, scared brain.

I can understand what your saying, but the lashing out thought did cross my mind when I first watched it. I don't think anyone would be all butch about it, but lashing out when terrified can and does happen...would the "Fight or Flight" situation arise here?

I had a friend who was an amateur psychologist and over analysed everything people said and did, on many levels (yawwwwn) ;)

I think this guy would punch the ghost

how exactly can you assure us dean? How do you know how everyone would react? You don't have ESP do you?

Look at it this way. Do you think they would get insurance to use a minor in this situation without some serious psychological advice on how likely it is she'd get attacked?

Okay, maybe I was strong in saying nobody would hit here, but the chances are very small indeed.

you'll notice when watching the video that the woman putting them in the lift seems to direct them over to the control panel (im not sure what she says but each person is generally over in that corner of the lift). The girl stands out of arms reach of the people.

I would bet they did that deliberately having done a risk assessment of the chances of her getting hit. So I imagine it was one of their considerations.

Ha, it was a very tongue in cheek reply ;) That said, with no where to run who knows how the fight or flight mechanism would cause people to react!

Because if somebody did want to hit her they'd be deterred by having to move a step?

That's exactly the video I had in mind with my reply....I was imagining that situation with an 8 year old girl :lol:

Kind of strengthens my belief that it's a set up to be honest
All actors

See, that video is different and my point exactly. It is the set-up with the lift not working and the dark flickering that makes it less reactive. That guy wasn't scared, he reacted. Different scenario.
