How would you light this?

Large softbox subject 3/4 front left + fill subject bottom right with 2/3 - 1 stop difference.

The large softbox to the front upper right of the subject looks to be about 3-4feet away.

Could do this kind of shot with available light from a large window against a white wall maybe? Add a reflector to subject front left?

Don't forget the fan :)

Let us know how it goes! :D

I'd say it was a beauty dish above and slightly right, with another light on the hair, plus quite a lot of PS. My guess is that the beauty dish had a honeycomb on it but not certain of that, it could even be a fresnel spot but I doubt it.

EDIT - oops, miss read, sorry

She's close to the background, which is reflecting light onto her hair, so maybe one light high right, and a reflector to her left, and another light on the background to her left.

I doubt she took a picture of Kate Moss or she wouldn't have to ask us how to light it. I would assume she would be a professional photographer to be taking photos of a supermodel. You need to calm down a wee bit Mike. Sarah, Garry knows his stuff so listen to him. This is not to say the others don't i just mean i wouldn't hesitate in listening to Garry's advice.

Its strange how posting a link TO an image, from the Rankin site it so different to showing someone a picture in a book.

Thank you both

Sorry Sarah, I miss-read your link - I thought it was on your own site. I must get some sleep, sorry.

I agree with Trig. Just one light, probably a beauty dish above right. No reflector, to give the strong modelling shadow. No hair light I don't think, just the reflection coming off the wall which she is obviouly close to. Really simple, as is often the case with the best quality work - let the subject shine through. And some wind.

I like simple!:D

Thankyou!

Studying that image closely, I would agree about the beauty dish above and right.

However I'm sure I can see a double catch-light (unless I'm going really blind now...) - looks like some kind of light on axis slightly to the right also, maybe onto hair or as a little fill? only reason I mention it is I can see it in the right eye half covered by hair also.
