Out of curiosity how waterproof to heavy rain are 400D's?

They're not very rain friendly at all. Haven't tried it, but have read horror stories about them being subjected to light showers and not coming out too well.

I wouldn't even take my 5D Mk II out in the rain without a cover...

Currently using my lads 400D and it's not very waterproof at all. I put it away as soon as it starts raining/drizzling.

My 40D seems to not mind the drizzle, but then I tend to drape it in a bar towel anyway.

Personally, water and xxxD, xxD or 5D models don't mix.

The 1D series of camera's are suppose to be weather sealed when connected to certain L series lenses, I've never tried my 1D Mkiin and 70-200mm f2.8 in heavy rain, I've always used a cover and that is what I would seriously recommend that for you with your 400D. Definitely not weather proof'd

You can make a rain cover yourself using old waterproof trousers if your good with a needle and thread or sowing machine, you can use a black plastic bag (cheap option), or buy rain covers from as little as £6.

Cheers for the advice i'll look out for a cover then :D

my 400d died from water damage (well drenched in sea water not a bit of rain), my 450d has been in fairly heavy rain and been fine
