I was sent this picture and asked to try to replicate it (I ought to add here that I have no idea who took it so hope there are no copyright issues doing this..)

I am very new to lighting, but there is (clearly) a big softbox or whatever to the right of the girl and slightly above her. However, when I try I don't get the same hard shadows - I tried removing the diffuser to no avail. Was a beauty dish used - if so, I thought they were usually round...
Any experts willing to help out - please and thanks of course !

Take the black slider in Photoshop and move it to the right.....

Yep, think the contrast increase has actually masked the natural fall-off from the soft box. Made it look like a less diffused, harder light source.

Oh and I reckon there must be light on the background too. Or possibly from the back. Look at all the detail in the hair that isn't there.
