Still learning my self but i would try moving your subject away from the background and lighting it with a flash, it can be done in editing programs but its something to sort out before the shot as that's more of a time waster.

Hope some one can give you more advice soon

Can do it for future reference by lighting the background and subject seperately, so the bg will appear nice and white

Post processing you could try the level's adjustments but being as you look to have used a single light source it could still be very difficult. As mentioned above you need to light the background of the sheet and using a water spray a few hours before can help reduce the creases...

If you can seperate subject from background then it's not too hard. Wouldn't want to do this with someone with fuzzy hair though

Edit: Ball needs a shadow but you get the idea.
