How to weather seal the 5D3 grip?

No
I got a grip for 5D3, but I realise it is a sure way to get moisture into the camera. The body to grip contact is plastic to plastic... and I see plenty of reports about grip causing failures.

Has anyone added an extra seal like silicone or glued some rubber band to mitigate the issue?

The other option would be to only use the grip at the weddings or portrait sessions indoors.

Having used a grip with my 5D MK2 in all sorts of weather with no issues.

I can't see it being any different with the MK3.

Just don't get it soaking wet.

I doubt it will just be the grip to camera joint - it will probably also be the battery tray and buttons etc on the grip itself that aren't weather proofed as much as the camera.

Mine quite often gets totally covered in condensation when shooting at night, in fact on particularly cold night the condensation was actually frost  but alas there has been no adverse effect on the body :)

I have no desire to entertain myself cleaning the condensation... In fact, I prefer them without grip for landscape shooting, but really can't be asked taking it on and off every single time. I really hope someone has a simple and effective DIY fix.

I've never ever took my grip off simply dry out the surfaces you can see and back in the bag it goes...I cannot say I've heard of the reports your referring too of damaged caused on gripped bodies

I'm sure I've seen more.

The grip contact just doesn't give much confidence - the moisture is free to make the way up the battery compartment. Maybe I will just apply a thin layer of bathroom silicone round the edges; stuff can be removed pretty easily by peeling it off.

Sounds like the guy in that link has thought Weather Sealing = Waterproof, almost.

Maybe he'll invest in a cover next time.

To be honest he said in that link he had it out in rain for about an hour, I'm not so sure that the 5D3 is designed for that

You could always use some blutac to cover all the gaps if you feel it worthy of it, I wouldn't use silicone or anything else for that matter.

A magnesium chassis provides strength and durability without adding weight. Weather sealing offers protection against dust and moisture.

It doesn't mention falling rain just moisture, so why risk it at all?

Ok some people like to shoot in the rain because they think the camera is waterproof, it certainly aint, if water can find a gap it will get in.

Best case would be to get a filter on the lens you want to use and use a weather cover, like a bag that will cover the entire camera and tape ip up along the filter.
