Forgive me for sounding like a complete novice, but how do you view a phot's EXIF data? i have right clicked on other people's photos being displayed on here, to find i just get basic information? If this question has been asked a thousand times before, i do apologise. Many thanks, Ian.

google 'exif data viewer' and take your pic of the programs.

KUSO is a favourite on here.

Why on some photos can you still not get Exif data? Is it because some people do not want you to know? Confused.

Do any exif viewers show the lens details?

Only the focal length used to take the photo and the f stop.

Sorry but that's wrong, one of the two I use will show the lens info if it's in the exif, Canon put it in, don't know about others.

LINK This will work with any browser.

The problem with lens data is that it's not strictly part of the Exif, but rather comes under manufacturer specific metadata.

LR, PS and Bridge dump that into the XMP data, which some Exif tools don't display, hence to need to use a range of readers to get the full picture (so to speak!)
