Hi, please be gentle with me as I am somewhat a techno idiot. I have managed to successfully download the free Nik softwear and tried to start using it in LR6 but I can't seem to fathom out how?

When I tried to open up one of the programmes it said I must close LR6 down first, then tried dragging a file from LR6 into Silver efex but a message came up as unsupported file or something. I have trailed silver efex pro in the past when using aperture and it worked within the aperture softwear so not sure what the problem is here, any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the vids huffy, should be good to see what he does, but bobman, it's software, not softwear- I'm guessing that would be a fluffy cardigan ;)

Doh! told you I was a idiot on matters of computing, never the less got it working thanks to you tube and Ned. Thanks all for the advice.

I'm not much of a reader of manuals. When you are happy with the way you have "altered" an image in Silver Efex, is it possible to alter a batch of images in the same way? Can I copy the alterations and use them in Lightroom? Taking images of 400+ runners next week and it would be a useful tool.

Anyone help me too, i have downloaded the seven programmes but they don't show on right click. only edit in p/s and elements(which i no longer use) osx el capitan 10-11-4
I pick an image in lightroom and then right click on it. It takes a few seconds before it goes into the prog I've selected. Love silver efex.

You've not got Lightroom open when you're installing it have you?

Isn't there an option when you download them, either Mac or Windows.
I have never used a Mac so that is as far as I can go.

Update just got a pop-up these updates have already been applied or are not compatible bah humbug

going to give it a go on my laptop and see if it works on there if it does its an el capitan (mac osx) thing.

Hi Mike

Be sure to read all of the article, you will only get 6 in the edit in menu, HDR turnes up in another one.

Can I add to this by asking if it (the NIK software) can be used alone - I use ACDSee on a pc to do my pp and would like to give the Nik stuff a try...

Yes, it can. On most of the modules there is no file open option so you need to work by dragging the picture you want to work on onto the appropriate Nik icon on the computer's desktop. Also, there is no 'save as' option, only 'save', so you need to work on a copy.

If you use (e.g.) Faststone viewer you can add some of the Nik options - at least Colour Effex - as an external editing program.
Same thing will apply about save as though - it will overwrite.

Am i right in thinking the hdr module would come up if you opened more than 1 photo for editing, i.e. assume you were about to do an hdr. its ok i answered my own question with a quick try

its also on the right click when you select several photos to open together.(y)

Are you talking about photo-merge>HDR Mike? If so, that's Lightroom's HDR tool and nothing to do with Nik. As far as I'm aware, HDR Efex is for use wth single images. It's not an HDR tool like say, photomatix.

looks like you can't do a batch using Nik through lightroom. There may be a way to do it through batch processing a function in Photoshop, I might have a go at this later. If I do, I'll let you know.
