Yes
I bought my nifty fifty a few months ago but had not tried to use it until Christmas when I discovered it has a bad backfocus problem. It is under warranty but having been lucky in the past I have no idea how to go about using it!

There is no warranty card with the book, but the one with the camera said I can just go straight to an authorized service centre. As Fixation in Vauxhall is pretty near to me can I just turn up with the lens and receipt and have it fixed for free?

give them a ring before going, just to make sure.

If you bought it from them, take it back with the receipt and they will return it to Canon for you.

It was bought online from cameras2u, but their web site says to go through the manufacturer. Which is preferable if I can get it sorted locally as that would be easier for me.

You'll probably find it quicker in the long run to go through Canon. Although your contract is with Cameras2u, all they will do is send it on to Canon for repair which is adding an extra stage to the process.

And after only a few months you shouldn't pay anything, unless the damage was caused by misuse/negligence.

My camera was dropped christmas day, still under warranty. It has been sent back to panasonic for repair via the internet company i bought it from. hopefully should get it back in 3 weeks. (spent new years in mid wales without my camera, it was perfect for taking pics!).

Been too busy for the past few months to come on here, but just to answer my own question in case anyone else wonders the same in future, it really was as simple as I guessed.

Struggled to find the building on the first visit but when I did I just handed over the lens and receipt then went to collect it when they called. My only complaint is that I also needed the camera calibrating, and when I went to collect it they had put it in a Nikon box!

Nothing is sacred any more.

Michael.
