How to unstick a stuck om2 shutter button

I picked up a cheap om2n on eBay mainly because it had a lovely 50mm 1.4 stuck to the front of it. The camera was advertised as spares/repairs so my expectations were low but upon arrival it actually seems to be in good nick but there is a problem....

The shutter button is near jammed. It's not the shutter itself jamming, I'm familiar with that gremlin. The button release is near solid. It works fine with a release cable. I can force it down but it gets stuck in the down position unless I pull it up with a cable release.

Any easy solutions?

Get some cleaning fluid into the shutter button, but take the top plate off and do it away from the rest of the camera!

Thanks Richard. That seems to have done the trick. It's starting to free up, though not 100% right yet. It seems to be improving with every shutter actuation though so I'll fire off a load of shots (sans film) and hopefully it'll be right. Your help is much appreciated.
