How to Take Stunning Pictures On TV

I have my DVD set on "series record" for this, which is a shame as it means I cant set Eastenders for "series record". I think I know which one will be set to record from now on. I wasnt impressed by the first one and even less so by last night's one. Complete rubbish.

The "stunning shots" were nothing short of awful, last week's were mediocre but better than last nights.

Pict 1 had a pole coming out of someone's head and Pict 2 had a very confusing in-focus background.
The "pro choice" showed the couple dancing with a young girl glancing up, between the couple and the girl was an extremely bright white vertical line, complete distraction and a poor shot.

Overall last night vindicated paying several hundered (if not thousands) for a pro to do a wedding.

I wasn't too impressed with the first one and haven't watched the second one yet but anything that prevents you from suffering a soap has the be worth it :D

I think I would rather sit in the rain in the garden watching a broken TV than suffer 30 minutes of Eastenders :help:

Whilst poking yourself in the eye with a pointy stick and beating yourself about the head with a halibut:D

Do you wonder whether this will encourage people to have a go and not bother with booking a wedding tog
after all you can do weddings with a point and shoot:shrug:

obviously joking but it has to be a worry

Good point well made!

I was hoping there series would gradually introduce the usage of settings ISO aperture etc etc. It appears that's not the case.

What does worry me as you, is that some poor couples day is going to be ruined by an overenthusiastic friend/relative saying "oh I can do that, save the money"

A colleague in my day job thought she could be a wedding tog and showed me a few she had taken at a wedding, which she thought were fantastic. My only thought was I hope you didn't charge (especially as she shot on a compact on auto)
:'(

I would have preferred it if the bride and groom chose the final shots, not the pro, and in a Ramsay "F-Word"-esque manner, ask the bride and groom what they thought of the samples and would they pay for it.
Even Suzi Perry's appearances in each episode are getting shorter and shorter. If I recall, she said her parents bought her a camera when she was 9 years old, so I would have preferred it too if she co-judged the final shot...

What is the purpose of Suzi Perry being in the show anyway, apart from being a glorified continuity announcer?

And as Voyager said I also spotted a few shots where the people were posing for another photographer.

As already said a Wedding is a one off event (at least it should be!) so no chance of a reshoot. If shot by a 'friend' you need to be absolutely sure they know what they are doing.

Continuity with the Gadget Show target audience..

.. remember that the target viewer is, roughly speaking, a Top Gear viewer with a shave and a haircut.. complaining thet HTTSP isn't technical enough is like complaining thet TG doesn't review normal road cars

Hey Top Gear is one of my favourite things on tv:D

That was exactly my worry, I must admit we had a brilliant photographer on our wedding day, he actually made himself part of the day and increased our enjoyment of the occasion as he was just so easy going and funny it helped us both relax.

Worth every penny:thumbs:

I wasn’t expecting much from this program – after all it’s on at a pretty mainstream time and I assumed it would be directed to the average person who likes to take a few snap shots with a point and shoot rather than most of the members on here.

I spent most of the first episode talking back to the TV saying things like “use the bloody viewfinder” “I’d have put her in a much better position than that” “the lighting is all wrong in that shot” Hubby spent most of the time laughing at me!

Last nights episode was spent again with me (and hubby) talking back to the TV “they arrived an hour and a half late for the wedding!!!!” “they are using point and shoots to take somebody’s wedding photos??!” we both assumed it had been staged after seeing this.

I think so far it is about what I expected it would be, a basic programme aimed at your basic member of the public with a compact and little to no knowledge. Saying that it certainly beats spending 30 minutes watching some of the other crap that’s about on TV at that time – although I could learn more spending 30 minutes on here to be honest ;)

Was a sad sad let down in my opinion ..... learnt more from being here in half an hour than I lost watching that gibberish not a single bit o decent advice given no settings etc etc etc if ya gonna do a show do it right I say a series well researched would have been better seems like cheap sponsorship deal fer Pentax lol <--- if that bit worng says it all the only comments made about connecting with the subject were common sense .

Well what stood out most for me was the pro's choice. The second image ( his ) looked like the groom was hanging from the ceil has his neck looked on a tilt and there seemed to be a ribbon connected to it.

exactely what i though and as for nearly missing the wedding... how daft

I agree, what a shambles !

Should at least get there just before the wedding troop, not as they are coming out of the church. I really do hope there was a professional photographer there ! !

I think also the program is too short, and even less when you take into account the adverts !
There is just not enough time to go into any depth to help people.
Even though I adore Suzy Perry and would marry her tomorrow, I sthink she should stick to the Gadget show.

I just got round to watching the last one, is it true that they have produced another 4 programmes? I certainly won't be watching them. What a pile of tosh!!!!

Looking through my TV guide I discovered that this program is broadcast on Sundays at 11.10am, then again on tuesday at 7.30pm, so those of you who will miss Eastenders can record it Sunday morning instead, so you now have 2 chances to see it.

John:)

There was a pro tog doing that wedding, there was a very brief (accidental I think) glimpse of him.
So by arriving late I would imagine it was done to take the emphisis out of who they were and why they were there including a cameraman, so as not to encroach on the couples big day.

Well I'm a simple soul, so I enjoyed both progs. I did have a bit of an idea of what was going on in the progs, but I was interested to hear what the pros were saying.

Looking forward to the landscapes episode too, so now you know and all you lot who were disappointed can get back to Corry or EEnders or setting up your strobs for colour spashes in the bath or whatever

I am glad there was a Pro there as this is a one off day that can not be repeated !
Also, note d in this tread that the crew made the 2 budding shappers late is a poor refleaction on the show ! :bonk:

I'm sure there was another show on Tv very recently along the lines of 'hoe to take pictures' ...
I will find out.

Suzy perry wasn't in it though. trust me I would have noticed

anyone see that Gadget Show epsiode where she cand the Jason were on that iRide or something? Looks like a see-saw/pony kind of thing and it vibrates. Hilarious!

Am I the only one who don't get the Suzi Perry thing? I've never seen the Gadget show so didn't know her but I don't find her attractive at all, just annoying...

I don't think the show would be any worse off without her. The Gadget Show is presented by a load of middle aged children who feign excitement at the littlest things and say "Wow!" a lot with big eyes and smiles when they do it. At least Jon Bentley seems to have his head screwed on reasonably well, but the others......? I do watch it, but I struggle to gain any real value from it. All it seems to be is variations on scooters - yeah, like I want one of those - music players, super-soakers or poxy digital compact cameras. As for their "tested to destruction" segments, FFS, how many of us are going to drop a fricking huge radio out of a helicopter and expect it to work afterwards? And what sort of people expect a rain jacket or a tent to survive the onslaught of a fireman's hose? At times it is truly moronic.

I finally saw the wedding episode yesterday .

OK the tips about getting the unusual ones by watching carefully what's going on and anticipating were good - but did it take the whole programme for that ?

As to getting there late and missing the actual wedding - now really that's just plain ridiculous .

It's quite obvious this pair of 'learners' were used to handling their cameras and taking pictures and it showed .

She wasn't Andy - she had no involvement whatsoever on the day itself.

Edit - but that does make it sound like she'd be there.

Hmm... way weird. Looking through her portfolio and from what I can deduce from her experience I can’t help but feel that she had a lot more to offer them than they actually got from their ‘masterclass’. The bloke especially gave the impression he grasped the basics so I would have expected far more given the opportunity he had.

See! Its not just me!

Suzi's rise to stardom was off of World Superbike back on Sky in the 90's - she was the totty introduced for the bikers (because Sky like totty)... but that was a long time ago now but I can remember she knew nothing about motorcycle racing back then...

I've no idea why she does the Gadget Show either... I guess trying to expand her career from a one horse trick and also realising that she was only totty to motorsport and you aint totty when you are 40 (unless you are Nigella of course )

Seems to me you can't please all the people........... Since investing in Sky+ a few years back I find many programs are 15 minutes content squeezed into an hour long slot. This is similar. What irritated me most was when the budding wedding photographers nearly didn't get there. Silly f~@?ers why didn't you leave early if you didn't know where you were going. I felt like smashing the tele
