How to send them?

I'll be putting my E-420 kit, flash-gun and siggy 55-200 on ebay over the weekend, but I'm not sure of how to ship them. I've never sold anything that wasn't collection only before, but I need to get rid ASAP, I'm not using them and I need the money now after buying the D40!

So how would you all recommend shipping them? What carrier/service? All 3 are in their original boxes and will be 3 seperate auctions.
 
RM special delivery - this is the only way i send expensive items - and wrap really well

the items arent large ones but if they were i can recommend senditnow.com which have a set price for upto 30kg off about 12quid, they are actually parcelforce in disguise but undercut themselves.


looks like royal mail would be the best for your items
 
Royal mail special would be over £20 according to their site :eek:

That send it now looks good at first glance.
 
Whichever method you choose make sure you get stuff signed for, and hopefully delivered by someone who won't leave it in plain view and unsigned for. MRSD has always worked for me, albeit a bit expensive. Least marks go to the bunch that drive around in green and black vans - citylink I think...
 
Yeah I know but if it were me £20 on postage would be a bit off putting! That's only for the E-420 kit mind, not the other 2 bits.
 
then it might be worth shopping around, theres also parcels2go.co.uk as well which might give you a useful price.


im sure most people buying on ebay will be used to postage prices, yes it does add to the price of an item but by bidding you agree to the postage fees
 
Cool, I'll have a look round. I'm setting a highish reserve anyway, the camera's not even 6 months old, the 55-200 and flash are even newer than that, so I may subsidise the postage costs a little just to get them shifted!
 
Postage via RMSD is likely to be around the £20 mark. I sold a camera on ebay last month, charged £15 postage, then got stung as it cost £20!

The weight of the camera etc must have been over 2Kilo @ £20.70 RMSD but if you had sent the manual and a few cables separately you could have possibly kept the box with the body under 2 kilo @ £8.25 and the manual and cables under 1/2 kilo for £5.05. or if you also have a kit lens, up to 1 kilo @ £6.40.

With or without a kit lens it is a lot cheaper than £20.70. I recently posted my 40D body this way.

RMSD all the way, they cover you so well it's worth the cost, next time factor the postage into your selling price.
 
I sent a D80 body via RMSD the other day, boxed with all the gubbins and insured, it cost £20.75! Damn rippoff, ANC would have cost £9 for the same service.

I don't know how you managed that. For special next day delivery and compensation for lost damaged items of up to £1000, a D80 should have cost £7.15 to addresses in the UK.

I don't know what you people are doing. I use Rpyal Mail Special Next Day Delivery regularly and I've never paid more than £9 (2Kg and £1000 comp)
 
Definately use Royal Mail Special Delivery for the UK.

For Europe, use Royal Mail Airsure or International Signed For.

I sold my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AF-G on Ebay, and it went to France. It was there 2 days later :)

Whatever you use, make sure your parcel has full tracking. Use Paypal to print out a postage labal. Personally I would only use Paypal approved carriers, as the label you print has full tracking so no one can say they didn't get anything...

Really, how did you work that out then?

£7.15 is items up to 1kg with £1k comp. The boxed weight of a D80 is 1.8kg and with additional packaging you could quite easily go over the 2kg threshold and take it up to the £20.70 maximum, assuming you're still going for the £500 comp.

Which shows you're not taking weights into account.

Any 70-200mm weighs over 2kg in its box, let alone with the extra packaging necessary.

Really...........the D80 body only (which is what was sent) is 585g less batt or 668g plus batt. Even given the weight of leads, CD's, manuals, etc (assuming they where included in the sale) and packaging I be amazed if the total weight was anywhere near 2kg.
 
Damn, I knew I shouldn't have put those rubber bricks in the same box ;)
It was my son who took it to the PO, it obviously weighed in at over 2kg, hence the £20.70.

I used Interparcel and sent through DHL in the end. I would have gone RMSD but I need it picked up really.
