How to remove these zoo wires?

I have a photo which I'm fond off but the one distraction is the zoo fence that was in the back ground. What's the best way for me to blend these out. I have CS4 and LR3 and I've tried cloning on many occasions and I end up with it looking worse :(

Any tips or tutorials gratefully received :)

Here's a snipped view of the background...

i'd just dust over them with a blurrie brush, with 'lighten' selected

Please bear with me I'm a relative numpty with PS, so I select Blur tool then Mode lighten and I've selected strength 100 but I'm not really getting any blending or much change.

What am I doing wrong?

:)

I would create another layer and add a blur 40/50% then mask the layer and rub out the parts you want to keep/less affect. If the blur is too much lower the layer visibility

Sorry, just tried it myself and it's not as effective as I thought it might be :naughty:

If you can select the fence area and create another layer, apply gaussian blur to that, might work?

I'm sure an expert will come on and help with a quicker solution, but it might help to see the whole photo too really.

Hi Danny, I use Gimp rather than photoshop, but did this pretty quickly using the smudge tool. Created a duplicate layer smudged untill happy :D Layered it over the original and then erased to reveal the tiger underneath.

New layer>quick select on the wires>gaussian blur filter>and...relax.

Cheers again guys after hours of playing with the smudge tool I've given up with that method as I can't get it half as nice as even as you guys all have :bonk:

I'm trying the Gaussian blur method which is giving me a similar result but looks better for me because my smudging skills are woeful

Photoshop always makes me feel completely thick :(
I struggle with layers and masks and what the hell I'm even doing.

Am I right in my methods, I create a duplicate layer so I can do alterations on a copy so I'm not altering the main image?

Masks are then for making changes on selected parts of an image and then you rub out the areas you don't want transferred when you merge the lot?

Sorry for the noobie questions I have Kelbys books but still find it hard to get my head round for some reason :)

Yup, always edit on a layer, and even then make sure you have a dupe of your original, so if you make a mess of it, and we all did to begin with, you still have a good copy. I'd try to get the hang of layers first, then move on to masks when you're comfortable with that.

Thanks again guys, have something I'm reasonably happy with.

Before and after, I cloned out the branch behind rather crudely and then did the quick select and added the blur. :)

Hopefully I've not done too bad a job. It's might first go at anything like this, normally I stick to LR3 but I like this picture and have always found the back ground annoying.

should do the left side of the big branch too fella ;)
actually, clone the big branch out too ...

actually, the foreground blueishness suggests wire or something, crop that out :)

Hmm yeah maybe I could even out the other side but the foreground blur is just because the focus was on the eye and the foreground I'd oof. Maybe a tighter crop is needed but I like showing a bit of the environment the tiger is in and the branches/wood he chews on :)

I know you just asked how to remove the wire but wonder why? Because of the platform it is laying on it is still fairly obvious it is probably a captive animal, why not try having an escaped tiger instead ? (I was initially looking for grass but came across this picture and used it instead)

This is only a very rough copy but select the tiger and apply a layer mask (square with circle in it at bottom of layer pallet) so only tiger shows, place in background and use black or white brush to let some of background show through, I then changed colour of tiger slightly to reflect background, very rough, very quick edit as just an idea
