Hi, I photographed a six day old baby with really really bad jaundice! He didn't look that bad IRL but his skin colour in camera is awful :(
I have tried everything. Filters, colour balance, saturation sliders in LR or ACR but nothing works perfectly! I can remove some but not allow it! But removing too much makes him look odd! Any tips appreciated. I will upload an image when I'm at the PC shortly. Thank you.

30 seconds to edit, export, and upload :)

Obviously you need to make other adjustments etc but changing skin tones is straight forward. Are you using Lightroom?

here's a quick edit, hsl layer to sort yellows then selective color to balance skin tones panels with settings below....

you can still see some small shift but it's just a quick job and in the ballpark. You may need a couple of layers to get it perfect and you could do to probably add some masking. Depending on your style you might want to add some more colour work once you removed/reduced the shift

LR and PS. I've tried dragging the sliders back in HSL box but he looks a bit corpse like when I try it
I wouldn't say my quick edit looked corpse like and that's all I did. All you need to do is tone it down then do some selective work to bring down the glowing feet and a few bright pink spots. The blanket on number 1 needs some work to smooth it out too.

If all else fails.... B&W :D

Thanks Adam. I know about the blanket, these were just the worse ones for his tones! And yes, there are plenty in B&W!!!

I have done a seven old girl today with perfect skin (give or take the odd flakes) and I just want to crack on with her as it'll probably take me a day to do all her gallery! I've stared at this baby for a new nights now and got what I think is a case of editing block!!

Many thanks for that Craig. Off to try some of those settings now.

I've just noticed I put the neutrals twice, it was neutrals and reds I edited in selective colour, not at pc now but will fix later
Thank you. I did notice the duplicate. I've set up an action with your settings and have added two other brush on actions, one removes some remaining yellow tones and the other the reds! I tested it on a few more shots and it worked quite well. I'll post them up tomorrow.

OK probably a daft thing to ask, but have you asked the parents their view of the baby's jaundice? My little boy was prem and very jaundice, after a week on a bili bed he was still very orange, I took my own photos of course but having a record of him like that was kinda important (to Me). But of course they may want the colour edited as everyone's different , I just think it's worth asking before panicking too much :)

Very common for babies to have newborn jaundice, usually peaks at about day 5 to 7 of life so you probably got him at the peak! unlucky.

As for premmies, again quite common but they will usually need more intervention ie bilibed or overhead phototherapy, rarely caused by anything significant but many don't realise how dangerous jaundice in a newborn can be!

Your final edit Marsha is gorgeous.

Hi Ejm (sorry can't see your name on my phone or quote) Mum is happy that I'm making his colour more normal! I do leave stuff in some shots, like close ups of there umbilical clamps/ grungy belly buttons! I like to record babies details as natural as possible! No plastic over shopped babes for me!

He still looks the wrong colour Mike! If I could have done it in LR with one slider I would have been over the moon! But every colour image has needed 'shopping!

Thanks Donnie. Whilst I love all the cute blankets and wraps I am leaning towards clean minimalist images! I have very subtle head bands for girls and avoid the baskets of flowers on their heads! Bethney Backhaus is my inspiration! Sorry for the FB link, I'm on my phone. But this is another boy, 21 days old, no jaundice but rather severe dry skin/ milk spots! Also a traumatic birth meant this was his favoured position!

As for the jaundice, I did another six day old boy after this chap with only a dash of jaundice! So he'll be a much easier process!
