Now, I've heard how some of you say Nikon, so keep this clean!

Anyway, I was curious about how to pronounce Nikon, because I've heard it three different ways (N-eye-kon, N-ee-kon, N-(short i sound)-kon). I thought I'd check for a Japanese Nikon advert on YouTube for the definitive answer.

I found this!

Fantastic!

HAHA... Latoya Jackson must be SOOOO embarrassed!

Sounded like 'Knee Com' to me...

I think you'll find the correct pronunciation is "no thank you"

ducks, runs....

Before I saw that advert I was going to reply that it should be
ニーコーン
which is
Nee ko o ne
though the katakana shown has
ニコン
which would be
Ni ko ne

Originally was Nippon Kogaku KK and since Nippon is pronounced 'Nip-Pon', I always pronounced it 'Nick-On'...

Interestingly, Canon is pronounced "Overpriced-rubbish
-that-falls-apart-in-the-Afghan-desert-whereas-Nikons-continue-to-work-flawlessly"...

My Japanese teacher would kill me if I pronounced it that way. I'm not sure how it got translated in the west as Nippon as it is Ni Ho N (from the kanji for Day - Nichi 日 (it's a 'special' usage) and Hon 本 (this kanji is used for book, but must have some other usage as well, think it's Real or True)).
The hiragana for Nihon is
にほん
where as for nippon would be
にっぽん

Give a ****? We won...they lost, we get to choose how to pronounce it...lol

Anyway the spelling was chosen by them, if you look at old lenses from the 1930's
