Hello, I am hoping someone can give me some advice or point me in the direction of a tutorial.

What is the best way to enhance reflections in car paint work using Photoshop? I am a relative newcomer to PP so go easy.

Many Thanks

For enhancing I somethimes use a sparkle brush, it puts a sort of starburst on where you want, theres load of free ones about.

From a valeters point of view: Make sure the car is clean. Remove tar sots etc. Use a wax high in canubra. I use one that gives aa wet look shine. How old is the car, it might be that the paint needs a mop as well. Paint can start to look flat.

put up a shot, lets see what your getting at the moment. then i'll have a play for you and tell you what i did, hth mike.

I don't currently have a shot to play about with, I am planning on photographing a friends car and want to get the best effect, I just wondered how best to enhance it in post.

A lot of car shots I have looked at are taken fairly low down ie sill height and take a look on your local magazine shop and the glossy's on cars for inspiration. If its for reflections make sure the reflection is interesting you don't want to see in the reflection someones rubbish bin or broken back fence. Placement of the car to get the best reflection needs consideration, maybe a pretty girl reflected is an idea.

Try a polarising filter. I was at the Custom Car show yesterday, and you really need it. I noticed the pros were using them for every shot.

You should ask how to do it in camera, good chance it will be a lot easier and quicker.

In most situations there ared still enhancements to get out of a photo in post regardless of how the image in camera has turned out.

Yes, but when it comes to reflections - the light at the time you shot it is going to play a much, much bigger part in it. (y)

As for post production, well, it depends on the image you have. A good starting point is usually to either increase or decrease the local contrast around the reflection. Likewise, either increasing or decreasing the exposure around the reflection will enhance it.

Polarisers are generally used to reduce reflections - you can bet that's what the pros shooting the car show were using them for. Though you can sort of enhance the appearance of some reflections, by reducing others around it.
