How to fold up a large collapsible background!!????

Arrrgghhhhh!!!!..... :):)

I bought one of these over the weekend and for the life of me I just can't get the darned thing folded back up.

Anyone have any ideas? Apparently it folds into three circles and fits into the bag!! yeah right!!:bang:
 
I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you!
 
Grab the two opposite corners, and twist in opposite directions and it will naturally fold in on itself........

You never owned a kids pop up play tent? :lol: I can do that with my eyes shut :lol:

Hehe Chris - in theory yeah... ;) in reality... phah! It's a tad larger than the image suggests and so I can't reach the opposite corners on my own, so even with Jen helping me we're struggling to do this. It certainly has us foxed.

Borrow some arms, ply some friends with alcohol, sit back, and giggle while someone else does it :D
 
lastolites website has a handy video for this exact problem. I tried to fold one yesterday and after 10 minutes I managed it. Not sure how though:thinking:
 
I've got a much smaller one that came free with a mag last year. It took me such a long time to get it to fold back up I've not had it out of it's bag since then. :bang::bang: :lol:
 
1 Grasp the corners of one of the shorter sides and bring the long sides together

2 Fold the edge nearest you down and let the bottom edge come towards your feet

3 Cross your hands to allow the top of the background to form a circle, and hold with one hand, and gather up the bottom edge

4 You should now have a circular shape to put back in the back, if not go back to 1 and repeat until exhausted.
 
Phew... many thanks Strax - the Lastolite video demos page did the trick.

It's because the frame for this collapsible background is so large and is extremely sturdy, that to fold it in half to create the 'pringle' shape required is very difficult to do on your own. Once you manage to fold it in half, rather than bring the sides together, it all falls in place just as Chillimonster correctly suggested.

Did it once, then again to check I had it right and it wasn't a fluke, then did it again for final reassurance... yipeeee!!

Jen suggested we ought to make a youtube video of it - now that'd be a laff... we might even do that after a bottle of wine this evening.

This brings back memories. I bought one off of ebay for about £50. It died ten minutes after my first attempt at getting it back in the bag. Waste of money that was!

Hi Sam - got it from here

http://www.viewfinderphotography.co.uk/product.php?cid=47 and it arrived the very next day. They supply 'sturdier' ones now and mine apparently was one of the first of these sturdier ones. It also comes with a reversible black/white backdrop trail that simply slips over the top of the collapsible part.

For the portrait shot job I had yesterday I didn't need nor use this backdrop, but we did try it out on the dogs at home last night and it works very well (we also managed to fold the collapsible part back in no time:) ) but don't forget your hair removal device - some form of sticky tape roller the wife had to hand that removed all the hair left by them!
