How to edit video recordings via iphone and edit other mp4 clips?

I need to make a short video

If I cant get hold of a camcorder will use iphone.
Also will need to trim and piece together other mp4 formats

Have no knowledge in editing, but how do I trim iphone and other mp4 clips and then piece it together?

Ideally need something easy and free.

Ps I have a pc laptop or MacBook

I would just use iMovie on the MacBook.

Consider he has stated he has a MacBook surely iMovie will be there as that is part of a mac when you buy it.

not necessarily imovie comes as part of the iLife package.

we don't know where or when the op got their mac. it may have been second hand with only the os on it, which is why i don't presume anything.
