Hey guys. Just wondering how i would edit bird photography using CS5?

Thanks

Nick

Faaaaar to broad a question, Nick! What sort of bird photography? Flying, perching, single, group, species, location? That's a bit like asking how to edit a portrait, landscape or sports shot. Why not put a couple up on here with an indication of what you're hoping to see?

Many pics will benefit from cropping, levels adjustment and sharpening, so perhaps you could start with those. Also, you don't say how much experience you have with editing. What were you using before CS5?

that doesnt really need anything doing

OK, well, it's a bird, so I'd get rid of anything non-birdy, like 1/3rd of the shot being a while oblong. Then I used levels to increase contrast a bit (lots of ways to do this. Lots of ways to do most things in Photoshop), and finally sharpened it a little. Every digital photo you talk will need a bit of sharpening, because the capture process softens the image a little. Nothing to do with camera or lens, simply a function of the process.

sorry jon but i agree with N2M on that one - theres nothing wrong with showing a bit of environment arround the subject.

No problem here. Give two people an image to edit and you're always going to get different results. I agree that the original is a perfectly nice shot (). Nick was asking for ideas as to what else could be done - that right, Nick?

Dunno i like the second edit as the large white area on the left i dont think is needed keeping as its not really showing much. I like his eye, although that white spot to the left might want taking out if to be super picky

I think I would have cropped liked Jon but cloned out the branch.

I can see the original as a magazine shot with space for text on the left ;)
