Hi

For my uni coursework i am comparing b&w photos to colour, how they affect emotional value etc.

I need to print off contact sheets, this is where you have a sheet of A4 with around 24 images on it.

I want to load a folder full of color images and have cs2 automatically convert them to b&w using desaturate, and then save them as unique file names (jpeg standard).

Any ideas how I do this, as i have 800 pictures and dont want to do them all manually...

thanks!

Create a action to desaturate, Image> Mode> Greyscale.

Then use batch mode ( File > Automate > Batch ) to apply the action to the folder of images and specify a new file name and possibly destination folder if you do not want them mixed with the colour images.

Thankyou.

I did what you said and they all processed to b&w, problem is i dont have any colour copies now.

The save as etc dialogue was blanked out so i presumed it would copy them first!

If you had/have done it like this then there should not have been a problem.

As you stated you wanted to rename them then you would have had to specify another destination folder.

I tried upmteen ways to overwrite the original file and could not, with no destination folder CS just refuses to save them. I tried saving them in the orig folder and could not without specificly overwriting the original file when doing the save as jpeg in the action, in which case you get a warning "Do you wish to replace 012## with 012##.

Please tell me that when you did the action to desaturate you did not do the save as over your original image ( commen sense) and if you did that you ticked the save as a copy box in the jpeg dialogue box!

In which case all images should be in the same folder.

It appears I left the Destination: on Save and Close, instead of folder :(

Total user error on my part.

Luckily the a4 prints are on a webserver, but the 500 or so pics i had left over that were going to be both colour and b&w contact sheets are now all b&w :(
