Yes
I have photoshop elements 10 and was wondering if it is possible to crop, then resize to the original size?

i'd make the image a layer, then resize the canvas then transform the image size then flatten it again

Yes, but be careful 'up rezzing' can really impact image quality. Might be worth checking out stand alone products, i think there is one called photozoom if that helps

Hi John

Best thing is when you crop retain the same proportions, I wouldnt resize up as said it will be detrimental to IQ, why do you want to upsize it, even if you keep the same props it will print good

I haven't used elements for ages but does it have the option to crop to original (or something similar) on the top toolbar when the crop tool is active?

Aha! Use photo ratio

I knew you'd know a simple solution ;)

The only reason I was wondering if it was possible, is because I have notice that when I crop, then either the photo gets narrower (if cropping the sides) or the top/bottom of the photo, loses some of it height (cropping top or bottom), If you know what I mean.

Also my way of thinking is that you might be able to zoom in more as well or am I losing the plot here :)

yeah you can zoom in more, but you are losing image quality with it, as already pointed out

Depends how big you want to print really. I'd suggest not resizing. When using the crop tool you can enter the size in width and height so you get the right sized crop.

If you have a 3:2 ratio image that you want printed 6x4, just enter 6in in one box and 4in in the other (leave the ppi box empty or enter 300 if you have more than enough)

You should get an 1800 x 1200 pixel crop of the original that can be printed at 6x4 at high quality (obviously that's just an example)

It's all about the number of pixels and as you crop closer into the image you are throwing away lots of pixels. Great if you have a high Mp camera like a 7D or a 5D2 (or Nikon equivalent)

Yep thanks for that everyone, you know what, I have had elements now for 6 months and was sure that I had tried that button but somehow must of missed that one.

I should just say I am not printing but I am just trying to get my photos the same size, for when viewing on the web.

For viewing on the web resize the images in pixels (normally about somewhere between 600 and 800 pixels on the longest edge).

Just be consistent with the number and all will have the same longest edge size.
