How to create a Ghostly image without being tacky

A good friend of mine died recently and a group of close friends and family went to his favourite place yesterday to scatter his ashes , I took loads of photos from the occasion , one of which is a group one.
I would like to have a watermark image of me departed mate superimposed on top of the group photo , subtly if possible with out looking tacky .
I shot the group photo in raw , but the only images I have of my mate are in jpeg.
I would like to have him in the sky if possible as at the time of taking it was grey and misty .
No idea how this may even turn out or if it is going to be possible ( i have lightroom and photoshop) but only an inexperienced user.
Any pointers would be gratefully received.

Should be easy. Process and convert the RAW file to jpg. Open in photoshop, add the picture of your mate as a layer, move it to where you want it and then reduce the opacity to taste.

You'll also probably need to use a layer mask and paint out the bits you don't want on the "ghost" layer to take out the background.
