Yes
I've tried three times on each of the clean nozzle and print head programs on the epson utility.
the vivid magenta is the blocked one and COMPLETELY refuses to print anything.

now i have left it for a few hours (as per recommendations) so dry ink falls away but, is there anything else you can recommend to me?

I know this isnt the reply you want to see, but just search google and you will find a few ways to clean Epson blocked heads.

PS - the dry ink is the problem, and it wont fall away.

i saw a few generic replies but didn't know if they were for Epson 'R' range or if all Epson photo printers work the same way?
i've seen a method with isopropanol and a cloth and basically levering the printhead onto the cloth soaked int he isopropanol.

i live in madrid and will now need to figure out what/where/how to get this stuff...

A chemist will have the syringe and tubing then all you need is print head flushing fluid which you can get off ebay etc.

In my experience, with a R800, you might just as well throw pound notes at it.

I tried to clean the print heads so many times, it just didn't work, and ink levels were dropping dramatically. Eventually I phoned Epson, and they sold me a refurb, without ink, for £100.

edit: it might be worth trying cowasaki's method first......

2nd edit: if it is just one nozzle maybe my method is slightly OTT.......

You can buy Isopropyl alcohol in a chemist which is perfect for head cleaning as it's very pure (i.e. no bits, unlike meths) that and the syringe/tubes will get you sorted.

There's a video linked from this page that shows you how to do it.

i tried again, took another 2 print clean cycles and then the vivid magenta came through...my previously full cartridges now show about 20% left (apart from the magenta which is around 80%).

so, thanks everyone for ideas and replies...

so, next step is to check profiling... :)
the epson is printing out a little over saturated using the ilford profile (ilford galerie smooth pearl, old style)

colour management is photoshop only, is completely disabled else where - think there are three different places i have to check.
using relative colurmetric
high quality,
high speed OFF
paper type i have selected as (variably semi-gloss premium and also epson gloss paper)..still a little over saturated and dark although balance of colour looks fine.

Similar thing happened with my Canon printer, removed head and soaked in very hot water, dried for a few hours and its fine now.

How can I take out the print head of my R2880 printer. I have tried all kind of fluis and syringes and tubes, teh black is so block I cannot get it thru. Can I disarm the printer head to make a deep cleaning?
