How to add textures to part of images in photoshop.

Actually, the one on adding texture to skin looks useful.

You want to add textures to part of an image in Photoshop, but you don't use Photoshop? ;)
Well, if you do use PS, I'm sure you can just create a mask, either a gradient, or a more specific one using any of a multitude of tools. Personally, PS textures make me quite ill, so I try to avoid them whenever possible.

No i don't use photoshop I use Lightroom, I did write that correctly. Just avoide my threads when I use them then :)

I have to mock up things with textures in PS for work quite a lot. Depends what you're trying to achieve - but you need to create something to use as your texture. If it's a geometric or regular look you're after, then a halftone pattern works really well as a generic tex fill.

You'll need something to create the halftone with, so a new layer with either a few brush strokes, a B+W or B+clear gradient fill or solid fill is easy. I use Filter>Pixelate>Colour halftone and set all angles to the same eg 45degrees, and play with the dot size. Once you have your halftone try fiddling around with the layer effects - darken or screen or overlay etc. Double click on the layer and add a colour overlay or emboss effect if you wish. As it's a seperate layer that's modding your original underneath you can rub bits out, duplicate it again, move it, rub more bits, re-colour...

You can go on and on and on with more layers.... And that's the beauty of photoshop. Hope this helps!

You can't add layers in lightroom, so I can't think on an easy way to add a texture over an image. Wayne

you need to use a mask to selectively add texture.
