Today we took our beat up Ford KA in for its MOT and really in the back of our minds we were expecting a bill for a few hundred at the end of its checkup.

Please bear in mind this car gets looked after mechanically to a certan degree but not as much as we should look after it, and it gets cleaned err .....
It is 11yrs old now and I have owned it for 9 of them and never really spent any money on it, YET today the MOT tester was struck for words, He couldnt believe a Ford KA this old was in such good mechanical condition and the emissions were only 0.20 at 2698rpm but what did shock us all was he couldnt even put a tick in any advisory box the car simply passed 100% all the brakes function at 100% each

I am still in shock the tester even shook my hand when we were leaving

And to think we nearly scrapped it because we thought it was knackered

anyone else had any good news lately

No suprise really, it's a Ford
My Mondeo hasn't been serviced for at least 5 yrs, spark plugs are 6 yrs old and done over 70,000 miles on them, yet it continues to pass it's MOT. It's now done 223,000 miles. I dread MOT time as I'm sure they will find something, but so far nothing.

These things just run forever with no fuss or bother apart from the odd glug of oil and some water .... my next motor is definately gonna be Ford maybe a focus or even another KA but the soft top for our one day of summer:thumbs:

My service light had been on for months which means time for an oil change. Kept putting it off. Engine started getting rattly, I thought oh well it's done well and is about to have enough. Checked the oil one morning before a 90 mile trip and the dipstick was dry. Ooops! Topped it up and now quiet as a mouse again. Apparently not the worse for wear. (Pun intended).

Nilagin, you've not changed the oil for 5 years and goodness knows how many miles????? Mechancial sympathy please!
No sorry, not explained myself properly, oil is normally done once maybe twice a year, this past year or so I had got abit behind with myself, it had probably been 15-16 months since the oil had been changed. It's only the spark plugs I haven't bothered changing.

Ford have changed a bit from when I owned them then! Both the Anglia and the Cortina needed resuscitation if the weather was even a little damp, soon learned to always park on a hill so that hopefully I could get them started by the time they reached the bottom.
In those days a liberal spray of Damp Start or WD40 would do the trick. Alot of cars not just Ford suffered back then.

Yep, I remembered I don't drive a ford ka :D Always a good feeling when your motor sails through it's MOT though, ford ka or not :D It's funny actually because my friend had a Fiesta of a similar age that he looked after very well but last week the BigEnd ave up on him  Maybe with ford their maintenance procedure is simply 'treat it mean, keep it keen' :D

We've blasted deodorant spray into our 4 tonne bedford air intakes before now to get them started :D
