How surf photographer broke mould - BBC

I guess someone's gotta do it!
How do water 'togs stop droplets on the lens?

Good Point!

Thats a really good story

Good tips too :)

I ocasionaly go surfing myself (usually in abersoch) and have considered taking my bridge camera out on the board with me (wouldnt even dream of taking my nikon !! )

did at one point look into the underwater cases for nikons, but i havent got the guts to try them lol

wonder if those underwater throwaway compacts would be any good for it

Providing the are looked after propely undrwater housings do their job aswell as any other bit of kit. I am a diver and have got some good results using a digital compact. I am saving for a DSLR and eventually a housing.

Tell 'm what that gear costs, whacky! And don't forget to mention the lights...

Sounds exciting, but not for me... Maybe i would try it once perhaps? Can you imagine the insurance on the gear. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, every week: 'Err dude i kinda got my camera washed out into the great blue fanncy giving me some dosh to buy a new one?'

The skies the limit a strobe will set you back £300 for a basic one. The housing is around £800 plus the suitabl port for your chosen lens. Not cheap that's for sure. are you a diver W.Smith?

But the pic I posted is taken with a digital compact with no strobe and no photoshop.

And would make quite a dent in the quote:
"For a surfing photographer, equipment alone can cost up to £5,000".
